Odds-on favourite Bayonet easily crossed to the stands side to lead from gate five, opened up by two lengths mid-race and kept on well to remain unbeaten in two outings. Victory Duke settled third along the stands side, moved to second 180m out and kept on nicely in an encouraging debut. Peace Combination held on for a minor placing after travelling one off the grandstand side in second. Giddy Giddy travelled fore of midfield and two off the outside fence and wore down Golden Bauhinia 100m out for a Quartet spot. Golden Bauhinia was prominently ridden three off the outside fence and was grudgingly giving way over the final 150m. Gideon made some ground without menacing on the stands side after travelling behind midfield. Mr Right was stopping 150m after sitting handy in the run near the center of the course. Sugar never lifted after a midfield run two off the grandstand side.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (654)-LIBERATOR HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1000Metres

Shortly after the start, GIDEON was crowded for room between TARZAN I AM and MR RIGHT which was taken in by SUGAR which began awkwardly and shifted in after making contact with the outside of its stall.

Near the 700 Metres, PEACE COMBINATION was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of BAYONET.

Passing the 500 Metres, GIDEON momentarily raced tight outside SUGAR which shifted out.

M L Yeung was fined $5,000 for breaching Stewards' Instruction 22(3) in that he used his whip to excess on OCTAL LUCK when that horse was clearly out of contention.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on BAYONET at the request of Trainer C S Shum.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, BAYONET will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of SUGAR and MR RIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

BAYONET and VICTORY DUKE were sent for sampling.
