Star Hong Kong jockey Vincent Ho Chak-yiu will figure among a strong international contingent in Sunday’s Group One Preis der Diana (2,200m) when he rides Lady Mary.

The 34-year-old will take a detour on his UK riding stint to Dusseldorf for the German Oaks after picking up the ride on the Andreas Suborics-trained Lady Mary.

Despite registering her sole win as a two-year-old, Lady Mary has been placed five times including her past two starts in Oaks lead-up races.

“It’s lovely to be able to ride there,” said Ho, who will also ride Deep Love in race two at Dusseldorf.

“I’ve been asking Ryan [Moore] and other jockeys in the room [at Goodwood] just now for some advice who have been there. They all said the track is pretty difficult and tricky.

Vincent Ho will chase an international Group One triumph in Sunday’s German Oaks.

“[Lady Mary] definitely has good form, she ran close in a Group Three and all that. Let’s see how the race pans out. There’s a lot of horses in there in different situations and especially on that track, so let’s see.”

Suborics also has a connection with Hong Kong, notching 70 wins from more than 1,000 rides in several riding stints in the city. His most famous triumph was on Silvano in the Group One QE II Cup (2,000m) in 2001.

Suborics was delighted when Lady Mary drew barrier four. His other runner Diamond Crown, an impressive winner on debut and last-start second over the Oaks trip, was dealt the outside draw in the field of 16.

“Anything between one and eight is a positive,” Suborics said.

“Lady Mary always runs her race and was tenderly handled last time with this in mind. The distance might stretch her though.

Andreas Suborics after booting home a winner at Sha Tin in 2015.

“Diamond Crown was too far back last time and had to make up an awful lot of ground, but she was the fastest horse at the finish. The ground will suit and I am confident of a big run, despite the gate.”

Je Zous is yet to win this term but was placed in France and Ireland before a sound fifth in the Group Two Ribblesdale Stakes (2,392m) at Ascot last start.

Darnation, trained by Briton Karl Burke, is likely to start favourite on the back of her successful raid on the Group Two German 1,000 Guineas (1,600m) in May.

The Too Darn Hot filly was then a game second in the Group Three Hoppings Fillies’ Stakes (2,038m) on Newcastle’s all-weather surface in June.

“Darnation has been training well and ran a big race under a penalty at Newcastle,” said Burke’s assistant trainer, Lucy Cowley.

“We are hopeful she will stay this new trip and look forward to taking her back to Dusseldorf.”

Adrie de Vries will ride Darnation, who has drawn barrier five.

Bubble Gum, prepared by French handler Fabrice Chappet, also boasts strong claims with champion Irish rider Jamie Spencer booked to ride.

“Bubble Gum has shown tremendous promise and has been in excellent form leading up to the German Oaks,” Chappet said of the two-time winner in France.

“We are looking forward to a competitive race and are hopeful for a successful outcome.”

The Oaks is one of two races from Dusselforf to be beamed live into Hong Kong for betting. The first, the HKJC World Pool Handicap (1,500m), jumps at 7.23pm Hong Kong time.

The Jockey Club will also simulcast nine races from Deauville on Sunday, headlined by the Group One Prix Maurice de Gheest (1,300m).
