Since his whirlwind start in October 2013, Joao Moreira has set many new benchmarks, but he quietly achieved a hugely underrated feat with lowly Class Five winner Happy Friendship. Moreira’s runaway win on the Sean Woods-trained five-year-old means he has ridden a winner for every one of the 24 trainers based at Sha Tin. It took 10 rides for Woods to break through and add the Englishman to the list and Moreira was well aware that he had one more name to scratch off the list. “I’m sure it has been done before but I am still very grateful to have that much support,” Moreira said. Woods will be left hoping the handicapper gives the win the kid glove treatment after Happy Friendship won by five and quarter lengths off a rating of 28.

My Darling finished for the season after impressive victory

Talented youngster My Darling returned to Sha Tin a different horse according to Joao Moreira after the three-year-old stepped up in style with a 1,400m Class Three win. “I rode him here at Sha Tin two starts ago in March, and while he was a bit unlucky, he was pushed out wide, he still didn’t finish the race off,” Moreira said. “He had plenty of trials, won convincingly at Happy Valley and today he came back here a different horse – he was a real racehorse. He is a lovely horse going forward and I’m really excited about what he will do next season.” John Size then indicated that the next time fans would see My Darling again would be next season. “He has done his job with three wins now and I don’t like running three-year-olds in Class Two,” he said.

New Australian broadcasting deal to provide uninterrupted coverage

Australia’s Racing.com will begin broadcasting Hong Kong racing from June 1 in a partnership announced yesterday in a move aimed at providing uninterrupted coverage, according to the Jockey Club. As well as being able to watch on Racing.com’s website stream, both Happy Valley and Sha Tin fixtures will be beamed out via cable, digital and free-to-air television platforms and providing what Jockey Club officials hope is less cluttered coverage than what is currently available on Sky Racing’s various channels. “We are excited to have this cooperation with Racing.com so Australian racing fans will be able to follow our product with full and uninterrupted coverage,” said Richard Cheung, the Jockey Club’s executive director of customer and marketing. “This will benefit the Club’s commingling revenue, benefit Racing.com from the perspective of drawing viewership, as well as our commingling and separate pool partners in Australia.”
