The Ricky Yiu Poon-fai-trained Good Treasure has been showing improvement with each run and it was no exception on Sunday in the Class Three Franck Muller Handicap (1,600m).
Good Treasure was well tried in Britain, winning three times and placing on four occasions from nine starts and arrived on a mark of 74.
Just like any other European import, the four-year-old has been taking his time getting used to the new surroundings.
The gelding has been showing improvement on the training track and his last two runs prior to his latest at Sha Tin had merit.
Leaving from gate eight at 99-1 odds with Andreas Suborics aboard again, Good Treasure jumped with the field to occupy a spot better than midfield and one off the rails about six lengths off the leader Winning Mascot. He was pocketed for a run at the 250m, allowed the hot favourite Dr Good Habit to go by before switching out for a clear run at the 200m and then ran on steadily to miss fourth by a bob of heads to Amazingly - 21/4 lengths behind the exciting Dr Good Habit.
He is the first of the American stallion Three Valleys - five-time winner from 1,200m to 1,800m - to race in Hong Kong. Three Valleys' major victories were in the Coventry Stakes in Britain, and Del Mar Breeders' Cup Handicap and Oceanport Stakes in the United States.
His dam, Indian Ridge mare Hoh Dancer, was twice placed over 1,000m at Sandown and Warwick from six starts in Britain and has produced four other winners - three by Diktat, including the 10-time winner Dichoh.
Good Treasure is starting to find his legs and, according to his pedigree, should be best on a ground with a cushion over a mile to 1,800m and will be a serious player next season.
