Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Packing Power stalked the leader one off the rail and edged clear after striking the front 200m out for a smart debut win. He has a bright future. Circuit Seven stayed on well for second after settling in the box seat. It was his best effort from five starts over the Valley 1,200m. Speedy Smartie kept on very well for third after a prominent trip wide without cover from gate seven. He relished a return to the Valley 1,200m after a failure last month on the dirt. One For All was on his tippy toes 100m out after easily finding the front from gate nine. It was a better effort from one run to the next at his second start following throat surgery. Punted late, Draco ran on to just miss fourth after biding his time four from the rear. He has shown flashes of ability in his three trials but is still a work in progress. Dan Attack kept on evenly after settling on the rail in midfield. Modest Gentlemen ran on without threatening near the inside from the rear of the field. Sight Hero whacked on one-paced after having the run close on him when trying to get to the outside 200m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three : (725) - MOUNT NICHOLSON HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Meters

Horse No 2 ACE POWER (J181) A Atzeni Despite being ridden along in the early stages failed to show sufficient pace to hold a more forward position.

Near the 650 Metres was bumped by SIGHT HERO.

For some distance near the 150 Metres the whip of A Atzeni became entangled in his rein as he changed his whip from his left to his right hand.

After the race, A Atzeni stated that his mount was disadvantaged by racing wide, however, gave ground when placed under pressure in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Horse No 3 DOUBLE BINGO (J309) B Avdulla Over the final 50 Metres could not be ridden out when it improved close to ONE FOR ALL.

After the race, Trainer Y S Tsui confirmed that his instructions from the outside barrier were to ride the horse conservatively in the early stages.

Horse No 4 PACKING POWER (J284) Z Purton Bumped on the hindquarters on jumping.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 5 SIGHT HERO (D487) L Hewitson After the 700 Metres was steadied when placed in restricted room between GIMME FIVE and DRACO which shifted out slightly when racing keenly.

When questioned regarding his riding rounding the Home Turn and as to whether there was an opportunity to improve to the outside of GIMME FIVE, L Hewitson stated that his instructions were to settle his mount where comfortable and anticipated racing in a midfield position.

He said leaving the 500 Metres when GIMME FIVE did not improve into the event, he became awkwardly placed close to the heels of that runner and whilst his intention was to shift to that runner's outside, he was unable to do so due to his mount being placed too close to the heels of GIMME FIVE and also because ACE POWER was positioned directly to his outside.

He added near the 400 Metres when he observed DRACO to improve forward, he elected to shift in to follow that runner into the event.

L Hewitson further stated that after riding his mount along in the early part of the Home Straight, SIGHT HERO then had difficulty obtaining clear running between SPEEDY SMARTIE and DRACO near the 150 Metres and could not be fully tested until after the 100 Metres where his mount finished off in a one-paced manner.

After considering his explanations, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by Jockey Hewitson were reasonable in the circumstances.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer" which had previously been reported.

Horse No 6 DIVINE SHINING (G373) M L Yeung Jumped awkwardly, shifted out and lost ground.

After the race, M L Yeung reported that he was concerned there may be something amiss with his mount due to the manner in which it gave ground in the Home Straight.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Before being allowed to race again, DIVING SHINING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Horse No 7 DRACO (J115) H Bowman Near the 750 Metres was steadied to avoid DAN ATTACK when it commenced to race keenly.

Horse No 8 SPEEDY SMARTIE (H108) H Bentley Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

Horse No 10 CIRCUIT SEVEN (D474) M F Poon Bumped at the start.

Raced keenly in the early stages.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 DAN ATTACK (H317) A Hamelin Bumped at the start.

Horse No 12 MODEST GENTLEMAN (G352) A Badel From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
