Racing Incident Report
Race Three: (724) - SHEUNG HEI HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters
GLUCK RACER, which was fractious in the barriers, jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
BEAU GOSSE jumped only fairly and shortly after the start was crowded by JOYFUL CHAMPION which shifted out and away from FEARLESS FIRE.
BEAU GOSSE was then shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
COPARTNER ERA and SUNNY DELIGHT bumped at the start.
Then from the outside barriers, COPARTNER ERA and SUNNY DELIGHT were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Despite being ridden along in the early stages, JOYFUL CHAMPION failed to show sufficient pace to take up a more forward position.
Near the 1400 Metres, JOYFUL GENIUS was steadied when crowded between WIN WIN FIGHTER and V CHEVALIERS which was taken out by GLUCK RACER when that runner made the turn awkwardly.
In the middle stages, GLUCK RACER and BEAU GOSSE raced keenly.
Near the 400 Metres, JOYFUL CHAMPION was steadied when disappointed for running to the inside of SUNNY DELIGHT when that runner was commencing to give ground.
BEAU GOSSE lay out making the Home Turn.
When questioned regarding his riding of M UNICORN and the reason he commenced a forward move near the 1000 Metres, K Teetan stated that his instructions were to take up a forward position and lead if the pace of the event was slow.
He added that he was also given the option that should the pace steady in the middle stages, he could make a forward move.
He said in the early stages when positioned behind GANG OF BROTHERS, he felt the pace was genuine and for this reason he held a position with cover behind that runner.
He said near the 1000 Metres he felt the pace slowed and having regard to his instructions he elected to ride his mount forward to endeavour to lead.
He added that as he commenced a forward move, the leaders quickened which resulted in him having to make more use of M UNICORN than what he had anticipated and as a result M UNICORN was left without a finishing effort.
Trainer C Fownes confirmed the instructions issued and whilst he conceded that M UNICORN was unsuited by making a forward move in the Back Straight, he confirmed that such tactic was open to Jockey Teetan having regard to the instructions issued and taking into account the sectional times of the event which confirmed the pace between the 1200 Metres and the 800 Metres was run slower than standard time.
After considering his explanations, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by K Teetan were reasonable in the circumstances.
A veterinary inspection of M UNICORN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of GANG OF BROTHERS and JOYFUL CHAMPION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SUNNY DELIGHT immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.
M UNICORN, GALLANT CROWN and BEAU GOSSE were sent for sampling.

Gallant Crown held on by a whisker after hitting the front 150m out following his perfect run fourth on the fence. He appreciated his downgrade to register his second win this campaign. Beau Gosse came on strongly down the middle of the course to make it tight on the wire after making his run on the rail despite exiting gate 10. It was the best of his seven performances and coincided with wearing a tongue tie for the first time. Joyful Genius dashed well near the inside to take third without menacing the top two after making his run five back on the fence. He backed up his last-start success at Sha Tin. Fearless Fire grudgingly gave way after M Unicorn pestered him for the lead 800m out. It was another honest effort. Early favourite Win Win Fighter ran on steadily after making his run one off the rail from behind midfield. He is not far off a bottom. V Chevaliers just held his ground in midfield. Gluck Racer did not feature after his handy run on the fence. He is better suited on firm ground and at Sha Tin. Post-time favourite M Unicorn weakened over the final 150m after rushing forward to vie for the front.
