Recap by phillip woo

Wellington quickened very well to get up 150m out for the win after a perfect ride three back on the fence. He showed his true colours with a step up in distance after having excuses in two of three earlier 1,200m runs this term. Ka Ying Star ran on well after travelling one off in midfield to snatch second close to home from favourite Waikuku. The tactics change and step back in distance nearly worked the oracle. Waikuku had to settle for third after getting pocketed for a run in the box-seat until the last 150m. He had an excuse. Sky Field was too busy keeping favourite Waikuku pocketed for a run after a one-out, one-back run and came up flat when asked for an effort over the last 150m. He's better ridden held up for a run. Plunged late Californiadeepshot had no more to offer inside the last 150m after dictating the run from gate two. Mighty Giant only got by a pair of beaten rivals making his run at the rear of the field. He needed the run following a bleeding attack in September. Healthy Happy tamely faded after a pace-stalking run. He didn't seem to enjoy the wet going. Lucky Express found nothing when push came to shove making his run one from the rear. His class was an issue.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (436) - THE QUEEN'S SILVER JUBILEE CUP - Class G1 - 1400Meters

MIGHTY GIANT began only fairly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of LUCKY EXPRESS, resulting in LUCKY EXPRESS becoming unbalanced.

MIGHTY GIANT then lost ground when crowded for room between LUCKY EXPRESS and HEALTHY HAPPY which shifted out.

KA YING STAR began only fairly.

Passing the 1200 Metres, LUCKY EXPRESS raced tight outside WELLINGTON which shifted out.

Passing the 600 Metres and again rounding the Home Turn, WAIKUKU and SKY FIELD raced tight as WAIKUKU attempted to shift out.

WAIKUKU was then held up for clear running from shortly after entering the Straight until near the 250 Metres at which time WAIKUKU was directed to the inside of HEALTHY HAPPY.

WAIKUKU then continued to have difficulty obtaining clear running approaching and passing the 200 Metres when improving into very tight room between HEALTHY HAPPY, which lay in under pressure in the Straight, and CALIFORNIADEEPSHOT.

When obtaining clear running between those horses passing the 150 Metres, CALIFORNIADEEPSHOT was bumped by WAIKUKU.

Approaching the 350 Metres, KA YING STAR was brushed by WELLINGTON which shifted out to obtain clear running.

KA YING STAR was then shifted out away from the heels of WELLINGTON passing the 300 Metres.

B Shinn reported that it was intended for SKY FIELD to be ridden back in the field today, however, the horse began better than anticipated and as LUCKY EXPRESS, which was drawn inside SKY FIELD, was being steadied to obtain a position towards the rear of the field, the opportunity presented for SKY FIELD to be ridden behind the speed without having to be ridden along at any stage.

He said this resulted in SKY FIELD racing more forward today than had been anticipated.

A veterinary inspection of SKY FIELD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

WAIKUKU, WELLINGTON and KA YING STAR were sent for sampling.
