Race Nine: (353) - FLAMINGO HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1000Meters
CZARSON began awkwardly.
Passing the 800 Metres, MEGA HEART was awkwardly placed outside the heels of WELLINGTON which shifted out.
For some distance after passing the 100 Metres, BEAUTY APPLAUSE and WELLINGTON raced tight due to WELLINGTON's inclination to lay out when placed under pressure.
Approaching the 50 Metres, GREEN AEON was inconvenienced by LARSON which shifted in.
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of C Schofield, the rider of the 5th placegetter, GREEN AEON, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out all the way to the finishing line.
After the race, K C Leung was unable to offer any reason for CLASSIC UNICORN's disappointing performance.
He said the horse travelled satisfactorily in the early stages, however, was under pressure prior to the 400 Metres and weakened noticeably over the latter stages.
A veterinary inspection of CLASSIC UNICORN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

BEAUTY APPLAUSE and WELLINGTON were sent for sampling.

Beauty Applause repelled a stiff challenge from raging favourite Wellington for a narrow win after hitting the front 200m out chasing the speed on the stand side. He has been racing well and enjoyed the straight 1,000m trip. Wellington did everything right but get the win after a handy run near the grandstand side. He had his chance but ran into a smarter horse on this occasion. Larson finished well travelling stand side behind midfield to grab a placing in deep stretch. He can bob up now and then over this Sha Tin trip. Multimillion grudgingly gave way when headed 200m out after leading from a high draw. He's as honest as the day is long over the straight 1,000m. Punted late, Green Aeon made progress late without menacing travelling behind midfield near the far side. He's found things harder three times at this level. Massive Pocket ran on without threatening after spotting them too much of a head start travelling second last on the far side.
