Recap by phillip woo

Villa Fionn kept on gamely for the win after accelerating to the front approaching the 200m despite a bad tendency to wander out under pressure. Favourite Everyone's Elite was forced wider by the eventual winner mid-straight but did have every chance to reel that one in after making his run one-off the fence behind midfield. Best Alliance finished well with two wider out after a patient ride third from the rear. He keeps picking up prize money without winning. Gold Velvet came from last to finish a distant fourth. It was a bad effort with a return to Class Four off a light weight. Specked late Diamond Legend only held his ground after settling box-seat in the run. Wait for him to find his way back into Class Five. Winning Together ran on without menacing from behind midfield. He's found things harder carrying more weight. Har Har Heart came up one-paced over the final 200m after peeling out and taking off 500m out following a one-off run in midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (488) - THOMSON HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650Meters

WINNING TOGETHER began awkwardly.

DIAMOND LEGEND shifted out on jumping and bumped SPLENDID TIMING.

Shortly after the start, BEST ALLIANCE momentarily raced in restricted room between SPLENDID TIMING and POLYMER LUCK.

BEST ALLIANCE was subsequently steadied to obtain cover.

From the outside barriers, INVALUABLE and GOLD VELVET were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.

After being hard ridden for some distance in the early stages, EVERYONE'S ELITE momentarily raced tight inside DIAMOND LEGEND near the 1600 Metres and was then steadied to obtain cover behind HAR HAR HEART.

After the 800 Metres, INVALUABLE was left racing wide and without cover.

After the 600 Metres, SPLENDID TIMING came under heavy pressure and after this gave ground abruptly and subsequently finished tailed out.

A veterinary inspection of SPLENDID TIMING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of SPLENDID TIMING was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, SPLENDID TIMING will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Having regard to the abrupt manner in which SPLENDID TIMING gave ground from the 500 Metres, the Stewards referred the matter to the Department of Veterinary Regulation, Welfare and Biosecurity Policy for review.

Approaching the 400 Metres, BEST ALLIANCE was shifted in away from behind SPLENDID TIMING which was losing ground.

NITRO EXPRESS, which was racing to the inside of BEST ALLIANCE, was momentarily inconvenienced.

Rounding the Home Turn, INVALUABLE was taken out a number of horses by BEST ALLIANCE (G van Niekerk) which shifted out.

Then at the entrance to the Straight, INVALUABLE was steadied away from the heels of BEST ALLIANCE.

GOLD VELVET, which was following INVALUABLE, was inconvenienced in consequence.

G van Niekerk was severely reprimanded and told he must exercise more care then he did on this occasion to prevent causing interference to other runners.

Passing the 200 Metres, BEST ALLIANCE was shifted out away from the heels of EVERYONE'S ELITE which got its head on the side and shifted out away from VILLA FIONN which shifted out under pressure.

After this, VILLA FIONN continued to lay out under pressure.

When questioned, C Y Ho (PERFECT TO PLAY) stated that his instructions tonight were consistent with those that he was given when he had recently ridden the horse.

He said on each occasion he had been asked to obtain about a midfield position with cover if possible as the horse was successful when ridden by him from this position.

He said on the last two occasions PERFECT TO PLAY had not begun well which had resulted in the horse racing further back in the field than had been intended.

He said in tonight's race PERFECT TO PLAY began very well and immediately took up a forward position.

He said he steadied his mount in the early stages in an endeavour to obtain a positon in about midfield with cover, however, he was unable to shift across to race behind HAR HAR HEART due to EVERYONE'S ELITE being hard ridden to maintain its positon behind that horse.

He said this resulted in PERFECT TO PLAY being left racing three wide and without cover after the 1400 Metres.

He added when racing without cover, PERFECT TO PLAY travelled keenly and for this reason, rather than remain racing in a three wide position and restraining PERFECT TO PLAY, he allowed his mount to stride forward to race outside the lead near the 800 Metres.

He said this resulted in PERFECT TO PLAY being ridden much further forward than had been planned.

A veterinary inspection of PERFECT TO PLAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

VILLA FIONN and EVERYONE'S ELITE were sent for sampling.
