Recap by phillip woo

Firming favourite Eagle made full use of the claimer's allowance to just make all from a good gate. He should remain competitive in the grade after putting the writing on the wall. Fairy Twins was closing with every stride following a prominent run to make it close on the wire. Jumbo Happiness made it close for second following a three-back run on the fence. It was a good effort in his first run since April . Red Warrior stuck on well for fourth following a deep run without cover in midfield. It was a solid debut over an unsuitable trip and he's likely even better on the dirt. My Ally made some ground without menacing from behind midfield. He might be able to get away with a race down the line in this grade. Harbour Alert disappointed following a box-seat run in his first outing for his new trainer following a quarter crack injury. Punted late Phantom Falcon was gone midstretch stalking the leader from a tricky gate. He needed the run.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (16) - CHUNG HOM KOK HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

IRON BOY was withdrawn on 4.9.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever).

Before being allowed to race again, IRON BOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

JUMBO HAPPINESS and MY ALLY were crowded for room on jumping between HARBOUR ALERT which stumbled at the start and EAGLE which shifted out abruptly.

PHANTOM FALCON shifted out at the start, resulting in JOLLY CONVERGENCE being taken out onto the hindquarters of RED WARRIOR which became unbalanced.

After this, JOLLY CONVERGENCE was shifted across behind runners.

From the outside barrier, GENEROUS HEART was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

GOOD FOR YOU shifted in at the start and bumped STORM SOLDIER.

GOOD FOR YOU was subsequently steadied to obtain cover.

Making the turn approaching the 1000 Metres, GOOD FOR YOU and JOLLY CONVERGENCE raced tight.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, JUMBO HAPPINESS raced in restricted room inside FAIRY TWINS which got its head on the side and lay in.

Throughout the race, RED WARRIOR travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned, G van Niekerk stated that he was made aware that HARBOUR ALERT had previously proved difficult to settle in its races.

He said in the middle stages of the race HARBOUR ALERT over-raced and it took him some time to have the horse settled when racing in behind EAGLE and inside PHANTOM FALCON.

He said after the 600 Metres EAGLE and PHANTOM FALCON increased the margin over HARBOUR ALERT and whilst he was aware of this, he was reluctant to commence riding his mount along given that it had travelled strongly throughout the race to that point and that he had only just got HARBOUR ALERT to relax.

A veterinary inspection of STORM SOLDIER immediately following the race revealed that the horse had bled from both nostrils and was also displaying an irregular heart rhythm.

Before being allowed to race again, STORM SOLDIER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of PHANTOM FALCON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

EAGLE and FAIRY TWINS were sent for sampling.
