Perpetual Joyance got up in the last bound one from the right to overhaul early favourite Mr Genuine following a one-off run in midfield to notch a second win from his past three starts. He's a versatile 1,200m performer on turf and dirt at both tracks and there might be another win in him. Mr Genuine did everything right but get the win after surging to the lead 130m out following a prominent run. He's way overdue for a win. Late-fancied favourite Super Fluke rallied well widest out after sitting one off behind midfield to fill a placing. He had his streak stopped at three but it was a good run in defeat despite a rise in class. Blocker Dee kept on a non-threatening fourth following a handy run. He's still trying to find a bottom after winning three times last term over this trip. Fortune Booth ran on all right after settling in the second half of the field from a wide gate. He's still trying to acclimatise despite winning first-up three back in late-October.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (336) - CANNON HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1200Meters

BRAVO WATCHMAN was withdrawn on 9.1.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter BLOCKER DEE (K Teetan).

Before being allowed to race again, BRAVO WATCHMAN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Shortly after the start, PERPETUAL JOYANCE and SUPER FLUKE were momentarily crowded for room between DRAGON GENERAL and HAPPY SPIRIT, both of which shifted ground.

From the outside barriers, KEY WITNESS and FORTUNE BOOTH were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Also from a wide barrier, SUPER LIFELINE was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, FORTUNE BOOTH raced in restricted room inside SUPER FLUKE which shifted in marginally when awkwardly placed close to the heels of PERPETUAL JOYANCE which made the turn awkwardly.

Near the 550 Metres, MR GENUINE got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FORTUNE BO BO.

Passing the 500 Metres, DRAGON GENERAL shifted out away from the heels of SUPER FLUKE after being awkwardly placed behind that horse.

Shortly after entering the Straight, W M Lai (HAPPY SPIRIT) dropped his right rein which he was unable to regather until near the 100 Metres.

W M Lai was reminded of his obligations to test his mounts out to the end of the race where circumstances permit.

A veterinary inspection of SEA JADE and KEY WITNESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SUPER FLUKE, PERPETUAL JOYANCE and MR GENUINE were sent for sampling.

Omissions from Racing Incidents Report from 7 January 2018 Sha Tin Racemeeting a.

Race 1 (319) When REFINED TREASURE was checked passing the 200 Metres, DRAGON WARRIOR, which was following, was checked in consequence and shifted out, resulting in CHAPARRAL STAR being inconvenienced.

b.

Race 5 (323) Approaching the 400 Metres, ELITE POWER shifted in and bumped NEVER BETTER, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.

Trainer A T Millard was fined the sum of $5,000 for breaching the Track Work Regulations as a result of MI BLANCO (A186) wearing the incorrect saddle cloth number during track work on Monday, 8 January 2018.

MI BLANCO worked wearing saddle cloth number B186, the allocated saddle cloth for KEEN FAY FAY.

KEEN FAY FAY (B186)) later worked wearing its correct saddle cloth number.

A report regarding Mr W L Tai, stables assistant allocated to Mr Millard's stable, will be forwarded to Stables Management for their consideration in respect of his involvement in this matter.
