Zac Purton equalled one record and continued his relentless surge towards another with a season-best six wins – including three for trainer Dennis Yip Chor-hong – at Happy Valley on Thursday night.

After a Boxing Day bonanza on Super Charizzard, Noisy Boy, Northern Fire Ball, View Of The World, The Azure and Aurora Lady, Purton matched the record for most wins at a Happy Valley meeting set by Brett Prebble in 2010.

The champion jockey boosted his imposing career tally to 1,797 Hong Kong wins as he edges closer to Douglas Whyte’s all-time record of 1,813 in the city.

“I’ll worry about the record when I get there. In the meantime, I’ll just concentrate on riding winners,” Purton said.

“It’s been a good night, all the horses have run well. That’s all you can ask for – I’ll just keep chipping away.”

Purton delivered Yip his first three-timer in six years, with a potential four-year-old series contender kicking off the duo’s big night.

Former Australian galloper Noisy Boy relished the step up to 2,200m to land his first success in the city at start three in the Class Three Mars Handicap.

Heavily backed into $3.2 favouritism, the son of Japanese stallion Real Steel trailed tearaway leader Frantanck in running and stayed on strongly to beat Sharpen Bright by a length.

“The horse did that very well, it was a big step up,” Yip said of the Kensington maiden winner and Group Two Tulloch Stakes (2,000m) runner-up pre-import.

“I like him a lot. I’ll chat with Zac to see where he should go next but we’ll definitely target the four-year-old series.

Noisy Boy surges clear to score under Zac Purton.

“The Classic Mile is probably a bit short for him in distance, plus I have another one for that.”

Northern Fire Ball gave Purton and Yip a race-to-race double, leading all the way in the first section of the Class Four Jupiter Handicap (1,200m), before they struck again with View Of The World in the second section of the Jupiter Handicap.

View Of The World added to his Sha Tin success in October when he bolted in by two and a quarter lengths on his first start at the city circuit.

“He liked Happy Valley and he drew the inside which helped him a lot,” Yip said.

“He did it easy in the end. I’m very happy, it’s been a good night and I’m delighted.”

Dennis Yip (second from left), jockey Zac Purton and connections of Noisy Boy celebrate.

Purton received a late call-up to ride Super Charizzard in the opening race, the Class Five Mercury Handicap (1,200m), and duly saluted on the Mark Newnham-trained gelding.

“A bit of miscommunication meant that Zac got the ride and not Luke [Ferraris] – he wasn’t replaced, it was just that we were a bit late to tell Luke we were running in the race,” Newnham said.

“It’s nice when you get a replacement like Zac.”

Purton lifted Frankie Lor Fu-chuen’s The Azure to a last-gasp victory in the third section of the Class Four Saturn Handicap (1,650m), before clinching his sixth success on the night on Pierre Ng Pang-chi’s Aurora Lady in the Class Three Uranus Handicap (1,200m).

Elsewhere, Jerry Chau Chun-lok continued his hot form, teaming up with Cody Mo Wa-kit for a double with Embraces and Romantic Laos.
