Recap by phillip woo
Hot favourite Able Friend made his run second from the rear from a wide gate, was strung up in traffic near the inside upon straightening, angled into the clear with one wider out at the 300m and produced an exhilarating turn of foot to win going away at the 150m. He's truly a world-class miler. Gold-Fun was ridden to lead through good fractions, fought back gamely when briefly headed at the 400m and grudgingly gave way to just hold outsider Grand Prix Boss for the Quinella spot. Japan challenger Grand Prix Boss was posted without cover in fourth or fifth from a wide gate, cornered five deep and kept coming to make it close for the Quinella spot. World Ace settled behind midfield along the rails, came one off soon after straightening and eventually got going to nail Glorious Days in a blanket finish for fourth. Glorious Days settled a distant third one off the rails, loomed a place chance three deep at the 200m and ran out of condition 100m out in his first run back following a six-month break. Fiero ran on three deep following a handy run along the rails to just miss a pay cheque. Trade Storm didn't make much of an impression after travelling third from the rear.
