Hugh Bowman will chase more big-race success in Australia after securing a trio of Group One rides at Flemington on Victoria Derby Day, while Karis Teetan could be set for another hit-and-run mission in Saturday’s Group One Cox Plate (2,040m).

Bowman will head to Melbourne on November 2 to team up with Keeneland in the Victoria Derby (2,500m), Emirate in the Coolmore Stud Stakes (1,200m) and Kimochi in the Empire Rose Stakes (1,600m).

He searches for a fourth Victoria Derby success after reigning supreme aboard Lion Tamer (2010), Sangster (2011) and Polanski (2013).

“It’s a day that’s been very good to me over the years and it was maybe camouflaged a little bit by Winx’s Cox Plate success,” Bowman said.

Hugh Bowman tastes success aboard Green N White at Sha Tin on Sunday.

“Flemington’s where all the luck began on the big stage down in Melbourne. I’ve got some fond memories and I’ve ridden some amazing horses down there. It is my favourite racecourse to ride so I can’t wait to get down there.”

A two-time winner from five career starts, Keeneland recorded a powerful victory at Listed level over 1,800m at Flemington on October 5.

He narrowly missed out on his latest start in Saturday’s Group Three Caulfield Classic (2,000m) as the $2.2 favourite, where he was beaten less than a length in third.

“I thought he was great and the opportunity to ride him is exciting. I’ve won the Derby before for the same connections [with Sangster] so it would be nice to do it again,” Bowman said. “I haven’t looked at the market but he’s got to be right at the top of the list.”

The 44-year-old teams up with the lightly raced Emirate in the Coolmore Stud Stakes, with the Chris Waller-trained youngster looking to build on his recent fifth in the Group One Golden Rose (1,400m) on September 28.

“I love the profile of Emirate,” Bowman said. “I know the stable really well and have a great association with Chris and the team, so I know how they operate and I just think he looks unreal.”

Bowman’s final Group One ride at Flemington comes in the Empire Rose Stakes, with Kimochi aiming to take a step forward after she finished fourth at Randwick in Group Three company on Saturday.

While Bowman will definitely be heading to Australia for another overseas mission, Teetan is still unsure as to whether he will be required in Saturday’s Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.

Jockey Karis Teetan is all smiles after spearing Patch Of Time to victory on Sunday.

The Mauritian will bid to follow in the footsteps of last year’s winners James McDonald and Romantic Warrior if he partners the Ben, Will and JD Hayes-trained Evaporate in the prestigious Group One, but connections are leaving a final decision on his participation until after he gallops on Tuesday.

Teetan finished down the field in the Group One Caulfield Cup (2,400m) aboard Coco Sun on Saturday and is looking forward to potentially returning to Australia this weekend.

“The Hayes boys contacted me to see if I was interested in coming and I said ‘yeah of course’. I had really good fun last week in Melbourne so it’s great to pick up a good ride like that,” Teetan said.

“These opportunities don’t come up all the time but when they do, you have to take them. Evaporate ran well [when third] in the Caulfield Guineas and he finished off really nicely. Broadsiding was in the same race and finished fourth, so I think it was a really promising run. I can’t wait.”
