Golden Sixty thrilled fans for across six Hong Kong racing seasons and provided an almost endless amount of highlights. The Post has selected five of the great galloper’s wins that were extra special.

2020 Hong Kong Derby

The build up to the 2020 Hong Kong Derby was immense as Golden Sixty attempted to join Rapper Dragon in the elite club of gallopers to clean sweep the Classic Series. For more than a moment it looked the dream might be over as Blake Shinn launched a daring mid-race move aboard $290 chance Playa Del Puente and opened up a sizeable lead entering the home straight. It took Golden Sixty until the final few strides, but his sheer brilliance and will to win saw him prevail in the most thrilling of Derbies.

2020 Hong Kong Mile

Golden Sixty didn’t get the chance to test himself at the elite level until start 15 but it was more than worth the wait. Sent off $1.3 for his first Group One assignment, Golden Sixty cemented his place among the world’s very best with a swashbuckling run from near the back of the field. The gelding was two lengths clear at the line – his equal-biggest winning margin.

2023 Stewards’ Cup

It was touted as Hong Kong’s race of the decade, with Romantic Warrior and California Spangle squaring up to the champion. California Spangle had knocked Golden Sixty off in the Hong Kong Mile weeks earlier, while Romantic Warrior was stepping back to 1,600m for the first time since his Classic Mile success. The “big three” were all poised to strike on straightening but it was Golden Sixty who drove through the gap inside the 200m and put a length on his younger rivals.

2023 Gold Cup

Four weeks later, it was Golden Sixty stepping out of his comfort zone to tackle Romantic Warrior at 2,000m. After suffering the worst defeat of his career on a yielding surface in the 2022 Gold Cup, Golden Sixty and his ever-present pilot Vincent Ho Chak-yiu timed things to perfection to pounce on their more-fancied rival inside the 50m.

2023 Hong Kong Mile

For genuine wow factor and unparalleled theatre, look no further than Golden Sixty’s 10th and final Group One win. Resuming as an eight-year-old off a 224-day break, the son of Medaglia d’Oro defied history with a breathtaking victory from the outside gate. A few lengths off the leaders turning for home, Golden Sixty swept to the front in the blink of an eye and the roar as he proceeded to dismantle his rivals was something to behold.
