It is the George Boughey-trained Believing who may be most familiar to Hong Kong punters among the runners for Friday’s Group One Nunthorpe Stakes (1,000m) and the four-year-old is considered a much better chance of making an impact at York than she was at Sha Tin in April.

Sent off $127 for the Group One Chairman’s Sprint Prize (1,200m), Believing finished 10 lengths behind Invincible Sage in ninth position on a yielding Sha Tin surface.

The speedster has been better since, however, picking up a couple of victories down in grade on firmer surfaces, and she is rated around a $9 chance in overseas fixed-odds markets for a Nunthorpe Stakes expected to take place on good-to-firm ground.

Ahead of Believing in the market are Australian raider Asfoora and local sprinters Big Evs and Bradsell, while Regional is also considered a $9 hope.

Unlike Believing, that quartet have all prevailed at the elite level and this race is being billed as something of a decider between Asfoora and Big Evs after they split the spoils in their two recent meetings.

After Asfoora claimed the Group One King Charles III Stakes (1,000m) at Royal Ascot, with Regional, Big Evs and Believing filling the first four, Big Evs struck back in the Group Two King George Qatar Stakes (1,000m) at Goodwood, with Asfoora forced to settle for second and Believing snaring third.

The Henry Dwyer-trained Asfoora will again be ridden by Oisin Murphy and the Irish jockey is expecting big things come Friday.

“I sat on her on Monday morning and she has never looked or moved better,” he told the Racing Post. “I have a lot of respect for the opposition, and there’s more to it than the two of them, but she’s in great form and she’s better off at the weights with Big Evs this time.”

Also lining up is defending champion Live In The Dream and recent course and distance winner Starlust.

The Nunthorpe Stakes is one of seven races the Jockey Club is simulcasting from York on Friday, with the first jumping at 8.50pm Hong Kong time.

Also among the highlights are the Group Two Lonsdale Cup (3,271m) featuring last year’s beaten Group One Melbourne Cup (3,200m) favourite Vauban and the Group Two Gimcrack Stakes (1,200m) for two-year-olds, which Big Mojo will try to win for the same connections as Big Evs.
