Karis Teetan has been flying on the dirt this season and the Mauritian rider is hoping to return to the winner’s enclosure with his strong book of rides at Sha Tin’s all-weather meeting on Wednesday.
Teetan has become the man to beat on the dirt this term, returning 11 wins from 58 rides – seven more than any other jockey for the 2023-24 campaign.
He heads to Sha Tin’s midweek meeting armed with plenty of winning chances, with his book of seven rides headlined by the rapidly improving Sing Dragon in the Class Three Chung On Handicap (1,200m).
A two-time winner from five starts in Australia, Sing Dragon failed to get off the mark on his first two appearances in the city over the Happy Valley 1,200m before a switch in rider, venue and surface worked the oracle.

The Mark Newnham-trained four-year-old made all in convincing style over the dirt 1,200m in March and followed up his victory with two more wins over the same course and distance under the guidance of Teetan.
While the margin of victory has diminished from a length and a quarter two months ago to a short head last time out, Teetan is confident Sing Dragon can continue to improve despite his wide berth in gate 12.
“He’s done so well,” Teetan said. “Since I’ve got on him he’s won those three times and I think he’s getting better all the time. Last time he just held on, but he had a big weight [129 pounds] to carry and he’s been progressing.
“It’s going to be interesting again and I don’t think the draw is going to be very helpful to him, but it depends how the track will run. Sometimes the outside gate can work in your favour and sometimes you can save some energy instead of rushing to get a position from an inside gate.
“I’ll just ride the horse that I think he is – he’s got a good spirit. He fights on and when the horse came to him last time, he actually kept fighting.”
Sing Dragon just keeps on improving! 🙌

While Sing Dragon will have to carry 135 pounds in his hunt for a fourth consecutive win, Adefill will only carry 119 pounds when he reunites with Teetan in the Class Two Chun Sek Handicap (1,650m).
The Ricky Yiu Poon-fai-trained galloper was successful three times under Teetan last term and aims to build on his recent third over this course and distance last month.
“He’s a horse who’s at home on the all-weather so he trials really good on it,” Teetan said. “Form-wise he’s going really well and he’s in good shape, so I think in this small race he’s going to have his chance.
“Things didn’t go his way on his last start, he sort of got stuck behind some horses and I don’t think he really got his opportunity. But, he’s handled the track really well in his previous wins and he should be more competitive in Class Two. Let’s hope he does his best.”
The dirt specialist jumps from gate five in the five-runner field as Telecom Fighters, Bundle Of Charm, All For St Paul’s and Yellowfin complete the line-up.
