White-hot trainer Pierre Ng Pang-chi plundered his first career four-timer at Sha Tin on Saturday, continuing the superb form that has seen him snare eight wins in the past seven days.

After rocketing to the top of the trainers’ premiership with consecutive doubles, second-season trainer Ng pulled six wins clear at the top thanks to the victories of Billionaire Secret, Master Of Fortune, Aestheticism and Mugen.

“To get my first four-timer is brilliant. The horses are running super,” Ng said.

“It’s not bad,” the 40-year-old added with a smile. “We’ll just keep working, and hopefully, win more.”

The win of Mugen to complete the quartet was particularly satisfactory for Ng, with the five-year-old son of Deep Field saluting in his first start since July after a disappointing showing on the final day of last season.

“With this horse, he was a bit immature last season, but we gave him time, and we’re getting the rewards now,” Ng said after his charge took out the Class Three Panasonic Thermo Ventilator Handicap (1,200m).

While it was Karis Teetan delivering the goods aboard Mugen, it was Ng’s fellow championship leader – Zac Purton – doing the steering aboard his other three winners.

Billionaire Secret remained undefeated over the Sha Tin 2,000m with his second victory at the course and distance in the Class Four Panasonic Japan Made System Kitchen Handicap (2,000m), while Purton made it one from one aboard Master Of Fortune in the Class Three Panasonic Lighting Handicap (1,600m).

The duo then teamed up with Aestheticism for the second time in a week, improving on last Sunday’s third to take out the Class Four Panasonic Speed Oven Handicap (1,600m).

“They had things go their way and did their jobs. It’s always important to ride for the stables that are in form and going well, and Pierre has had a great start to the season again. He’s doing a lot of things right,” Purton said.

Purton also walked away with a four-timer, helping Mark Newnham to secure the fifth triumph of his first Hong Kong season by steering Happy Hero to victory in the Class Five Panasonic Ziaino Air Treatment Handicap (2,000m).

Purton extended his lead over Hugh Bowman in the jockeys’ premiership to five, a buffer that looks set to grow with his countryman facing a stint on the sidelines after injuring his shoulder in Saturday’s nasty feature-race fall.
