They’ve combined for 39 victories already this season and trainer Caspar Fownes and jockey Joao Moreira will look to help each other put the finishing touches on their championship-winning seasons at Happy Valley on Wednesday night.

Fownes, who with a seven-win lead over John Size has secured his fourth trainers’ title, and the rampant Moreira, who is 31 victories clear of the suspended Zac Purton and also celebrating his fourth premiership, team up five times at the final meeting of the season.

They kick off with Perfect To Play in the opener, with the gelding dropping into Class Five for the Ventris Handicap (1,800m).

Moreira booted the seven-year-old to victory in his only other cellar-grade start over the extended Valley mile in December and looks well placed to repeat the dose against a field where Success Allstars and Wealthy Employee look to be among a limited cast of potential challengers.

Moreira pilots E Honey for Fownes in the night’s second event, the Class Five Link Handicap (1,000m), and the three-year-old looks to be edging closer to a win after seeing his rating drop 16 points across nine starts, while the duo continue their run in race three with Ice Legend and race four with Daily Beauty.

Fownes has made hay with stable transfers during his run to the championship and could ring up hand-me-down win number 15 for the season with Ice Legend, who looks a winner waiting to happen ahead of the second section of the Class Four Sung Tak Handicap (1,200m).

After debuting for David Hall with a sixth in November, Ice Legend was not seen again until his first run for Fownes in May.

After narrowly going down to A La King under Blake Shinn on that occasion, Ice Legend placed under the Australian jockey again when last in action on June 9 and will look to break his duck with Moreira taking the reins for the first time in a race featuring the likes of Most Welcome and Amigos Giggle.

The 56-rated Daily Beauty is another who looks to be around a winning mark after saluting on ratings of 50 and 57 earlier this season.

After five fruitless efforts in Class Three, the five-year-old has his second start back in grade in the first section of the Sung Tak Handicap and will have to improve on his last-start effort, where he finished six and a half lengths adrift of Packing Victory at the course and distance.

The fifth Moreira-Fownes runner comes in the seventh event, the Class Three Broadwood Handicap (1,000m), with Brilliant Fortune looking to springboard off a solid start to his Hong Kong career and enter the winner’s circle for the first time.

After winning his only race when known as Mir in Australia, the four-year-old son of Deep Field has produced two seconds, a third and a fourth in his new home, with Moreira in the saddle for all four runs.

The gelding meets consistent performers High Rise Soldier, Metro Warrior, Quadruple Double and Heart Conquered and will have the benefit of his best gate yet, drawing barrier four after being lumped with nine, eight, eight and 11 in his other starts.
