Tony Cruz has reverted back to a tried and true method in a bid to get the best out of Party Everyday at Sha Tin on Saturday, enlisting the services of Karis Teetan for the Class Three Chamomile Handicap (1,650m) on the all-weather surface.

Teetan has only been aboard for 10 of Party Everyday’s 22 starts but has delivered all three of the gelding’s victories as well as five of his nine placings.

While Matthew Chadwick (twice) and Joao Moreira have taken the reins in the five-year-old’s past three starts, Teetan will get another chance to land a Class Three breakthrough aboard Party Everyday after two placings.

“He’s been running well for the whole season. I thought his run last time was pretty good. He’s not an easy horse to ride – he needs everything to go his way – and we don’t have a nice draw so I’ll need a bit of luck in the run,” Teetan said of Party Everyday, who has been a different horse since switching to the dirt after 10 winless turf starts.

“He’s got a light weight and he loves the dirt so he can be very competitive. Since Tony has taken him to the dirt his form has turned around and he’s been running in the first five ever since. Now he just needs to get a win in the class.”

Teetan will have to overcome the tricky barrier 11 – only three runners have won from the alley over the extended dirt mile in the past three seasons – and will likely look to go back and run on like he has on two previous occasions when jumping from double-digit gates aboard the son of Snitzel.

Party Everyday carries 116 pounds as he tackles proven dirt performers Elite Patch, Clear Choice, Ping Hai Treasure and Skyey Supreme in what is one of two contests on the surface this weekend.

The other is the Class Two Carnation Handicap (1,650m), where Teetan climbs aboard Righteous Doctrine almost a year to the day since he partnered the Michael Chang Chun-wai-trained six-year-old to his last victory.

“I could be jumping on again at the right time, last time he ran well and only got beaten two lengths even though he was a bit wide,” Teetan said.

“I worked him and he is in good shape. It would be nice to have a winner for Michael Chang, it is a tough race but if there is a proper speed on he could let down with 113 pounds on his back.

“We’ve drawn eight and he could end up in a nice spot just behind midfield. The 1,650m should be no problem with a fast pace on.”

Teetan also partners True Legend and Super Win Dragon among eight rides as he looks to add to his 58 winners and maintain his buffer on Alexis Badel (50) and Vincent Ho Chak-yiu (49) in third spot in the premiership.

“It’s been a tough season and it’s going to be hard to get to where I got to last season,” said Teetan, who hit a career-best mark of 93 victories in 2019-20.

“I’m still getting good support but there’s a lot more light jockeys this season which makes things more competitive. I’m still pretty happy with the way things are going.”
