Champion jockey Hugh Bowman believes legendary trainer John Moore has what it takes to succeed in Australia, saying he would love to see the 69-year-old move Down Under after his forced retirement from Hong Kong.

Moore is yet to publicly declare where his future lies after the curtain falls on his glittering Hong Kong career that has seen him earn more prize money than anyone else.

Moore has made no secret of his desire to one day win his first Group One in Australia after winning them in Hong Kong, Dubai and Singapore.

Bowman, who rode Enjoying to an eye-catching fourth in Sunday’s Classic Cup for Moore, said the seven-time champion trainer could win at the top level in Australia.

“He has an amazing record here and he still has a lot to offer so I would be surprised if he didn’t go back [to Australia],” Bowman said.

“I couldn’t imagine he is going to have a huge team and try and take on the likes of the Darleys, Chris Wallers and Ciaron Mahers of the world, I couldn’t see him wanting to do that.

“What I could see is him setting up a really successful boutique stable, he certainly has the knowledge, commitment and the connections to do that.”

Bowman, who confirmed he would travel back to Hong Kong to ride Enjoying in the Derby next month, said he trusted the master trainer to “work his magic” on the four-year-old to make him a genuine Derby contender on the back of his nine-point ratings increase.

That “magic” has seen the pair enjoy incredible success together with Werther, who won the 2016 Derby before going on to win three Group Ones with Bowman aboard.

“He is very particular with how he manages his horses, he has been a pleasure to ride for over the years and I hope it continues in Australia,” he said.

With a rating of 95, Enjoying has been assured of a start in the HK$20 million feature on March 22.
