The John Size machine has kicked into gear lately and another win on Wednesday night with Bank On Red moved him into the top six trainers on the table and he advertised two more coming winners.

Size is still 10 behind the lamplighter Frankie Lor Fu-chuen, but only three off second-placed Chris So Wai-yin and it would have been hard to miss the run of Gamechangers in the Class Three sprint.

Gamechangers won up to 1,618m in Ireland in his early career of six starts for two wins, so it was probably natural to try him over 1,400m and 1,650m in his first two runs for Size last season.

He also won in blinkers in Ireland, so Size tried them in those outings as well.

The gelding didn’t really fire in either run but, like many imports, looks to have come back better for his second campaign after flashing home for an impressive second to Fantastic Eight on Wednesday.

Make no mistake, this looks a strong race, with Fantastic Eight running similar time to the Class Two winner, Born In China, but a much faster finishing sectional, so his rivals were never much chance of running him down.

Gamechangers finished a respectful three lengths away in fast time, but he was first-up and looked the part, which he had not in those first two runs, as he actually managed to pull some ground off the winner.

Size also took the blinkers off the gelding and got a better response, so it’s fair to say that the champion trainer is working Gamechangers out bit by bit. He should start to pay his bills from here on in.

In the final race, House Of Fun again made incremental improvement, as he has done each start this season, in running second to Born In China.

At a rating of 97 after 19 starts, House Of Fun is well explored and doesn’t have much further to go higher in the handicaps – triple figures looks like it will sort him out.

However, he shouldn’t be discounted just yet as he has a winning, on-pace style and looks capable of squeezing out one more victory.
