Twin Delight’s latest win came as rather a surprise but the Caspar Fownes-trained six-year-old won’t shock anybody if he makes it back-to-back victories in the Hong Kong Country Club Challenge Cup, 1,650m, at Happy Valley on Wednesday night.

When Twin Delight (Zac Purton) tipped over Joyful Trinity at Sha Tin on September 11 at almost 268-1, there were good reasons why he was so unfancied and became the second-highest priced winner in local history.

His 11 previous starts at the track had yielded not even a fourth, he was first-up since a last at the same track in the same class and was drawn wide.

But win he did and that can only highlight Twin Delight’s prospects on Wednesday evening, when he is back to the track he prefers, the distance where he has won three of eight starts, he has gate one and finds himself the most likely leader on a C+3 rail placement which invariably favours his racing style.

Considering there are so few Class One races run at Happy Valley these days, it seems odd that the Jockey Club programming department has found a meeting on the dreadful C+3 at which to run this one, but we play the cards we are dealt.

Twin Delight has no serious rival for the lead amongst the horses drawn nearby and probably his most likely opposition for it is Super Lifeline (Karis Teetan), a distance doubt, who will be working across from barrier eight.

If nobody gets a rush of blood, that may see these two dictate the speed to suit themselves and turn it into a two-horse race.

Of course, we know only too well that others might get the same idea and try to change the game and, if that happens, then Fownes probably has the race covered either way.

Sichuan Dar (Vincent Ho Chak-yiu) is in terrific form with wins over the course to end last season and to begin this one and a decent speed would suit him better as he covers up in midfield then launches a strong finish late.
