I’m A Witness had his chance first-up and could not quite sustain his effort but the honest Tony Cruz-trained sprinter gets his chance to atone on Wednesday night in the Cha Kwo Ling Handicap, 1,200m at Happy Valley.

I’m A Witness (Matthew Chadwick) had an excellent first season last term, a model of consistency who topped the $1 million mark in stakes even before winning in Class Four at his final appearance of the campaign in June.

He was able to gain the lead first-up in a similar race to tonight’s assignment and had it pretty much as he liked, albeit on a night when leaders were not seen to advantage on the rain affected going.

At the 200m, I’m A Witness nevertheless looked a chance to pinch it but had to bow to Hang’s Decision and Lucky Profit, who finished better than him late, and held on for third.

With the benefit of that run, I’m A Witness should be tougher to get past under his light weight this time but should again be in a forward spot.

Perhaps he won’t be leading in this race but following the speed, as Thor The Greatest and Excel Oneself are both quick and drawn to his inside, but the son of Commands has shown some versatility tactically.

His dangers look to be horses who are also drawn to his inside but will more likely give him some sort of a start, Flying Tourbillon (Keith Yeung Ming-lun) and Super Turbo (Vincent Ho Chak-yiu).

Flying Tourbillon finished just behind I’m A Witness first-up after having some cover three wide in the better part of the track and he ground away soundly at the finish.

Super Turbo has not run since running on well to win one of these races in July at his second local start and he looks right up to scoring another win but will give a small edge in fitness to his main rivals.
