Amazing Treasure looks ready give his owners some nice moments next season and help erase the memory of Real Treasure, who never made it to the races.
The Danny Shum Chap-shing-trained three-year-old showed vast improvement second time out when coming up with a barnstorming finish for fourth in the Old Bailey Handicap (1,200m) at Happy Valley.
Amazing Treasure made his debut over the Sha Tin 1,200m on June 8, but the effort wasn't bad as he was three deep without cover from gate six behind the promising winner Access Years.
This time from an outside gate, the gelding was detached from the field, and had nine lengths to make up when passing the struggling Jun Hao coming to the final bend. He made some progress under hands-and-heels riding soon after straightening, before motoring inside the 50m to cut the margin to 11/2 lengths in arrears of the winner Jade Christy. He clocked a swift 22.37 for the last 400m.
A good stamp of horseflesh at 1,143 pounds, Amazing Treasure should eventuate into a middle-distance specialist.
He is a son of Faltaat and Black Minnaloushe mare Nordea Belle.
Faltaat was a Champion Sprinter in Dubai and has had terrific success in Hong Kong as a sire with 29 winners from 34 other starters over a range of distances, including the likes of Little Bridge, Sight Winner and Super Combed.
Nordea Belle was a mile winner and six times placed up to 1,800m in New Zealand and is a half-sister to the Group Three winning-sprinter Zino Belle and seven other successful siblings from 1,200m to 2,400m. His third dam, Finezza Belle (by Sir Tristram) was a multiple Group winner over longer trips.
