Hong Kong Observatory says more unsettled weather with wind and showers expected this week

  • Strong easterly wind expected to reach the Guangdong coast on Monday and may bring showers to the region in the next few days, forecaster says
  • Rain expected to continue from Tuesday through to Friday
Hongkongers can expect unsettled weather with wind and showers this week due to the influence of upper-air disturbances, the city’s weather forecaster said.

Following the departure of Tropical Storm Maliksi over the weekend, the first cyclone of the season, Hongkongers would be able to enjoy some sunshine.

But a strong easterly wind is expected to reach the Guangdong coast on Monday and might bring showers and blustery winds to the region in the next few days, the Observatory said on Sunday.

“Under the influence of upper-air disturbances, the weather will be unsettled over southern China in the middle and latter parts of this week,” it noted.

The weather will be cloudy on Monday with occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms expected.

Temperatures will range between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius with moderate south to southwesterly winds.

Showers are likely to continue from Tuesday through to Friday.

There will be cloudy periods and scattered showers across the coming three-day long weekend when the Dragon Boat Festival is scheduled to take place, with some sunny breaks expected and highs of around 31 degrees in urban areas.

Separately, Hong Kong’s Ngong Ping 360 cable car attraction announced it had resumed service at 10am on Sunday after earlier interruptions due to the bad weather.
