‘The garbage doesn’t run out’: Filipino river rangers wade through muck to clear plastic waste

Ronnel Narvas is among hundreds of rangers employed by the Philippine government to clean up the capital's waterways, where tonnes of rubbish end up every year. Nearly a quarter of it is plastic waste, according to national environment data. The city’s river rubbish problem can be blamed on inadequate garbage collection services, lack of disposal and recycling facilities.
