Recap by phillip woo

King Miles kept finding after surging to the lead near the 200m from midfield to make it three wins and two on the bounce over 1,400m at his first start in Class Three. The Winnabe ran on nicely despite laying in under pressure to just grab second after making his run three from the rear following a troubled start. Gracious Express found a couple just too smart after a box-seat run. It was another honest effort despite a rise in trip. Giddy Up kept on a non-threatening fourth after getting tightened up 100m out after making his run behind midfield on the fence. It was a return to form over the course and distance of his lone local win. Not Usual Star ran on steadily after a one-off trip travelling behind midfield from the widest draw. He is not far off a rating bottom. Highland Rahy gradually faded after clearing to the lead from gate 12. Mojave Desert made some ground late near the outside after travelling third last from gate 11. Punted late, last-start winner Greenwich was a non-factor after a speed-tracking run.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine : (810) - THE CHOW SILVER PLATE (HANDICAP) - Class 3 - 1400Meters

Horse No 3 SILVER KING (H420) K C Leung Leaving the 450 Metres was steadied away from THE WINNABE when that runner shifted out and away from MIGHTY STEED after being taken out slightly by that runner.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a """"roarer"" which had previously been reported.

Horse No 5 THE WINNABE (J251) H Bowman On jumping made contact with the left side of its barrier and lost ground and then shortly after was steadied when crowded between GALVANIC and MIGHTY STEED which shifted out slightly.

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 6 GIDDY UP (J020) A Hamelin On jumping was bumped heavily by KING MILES, became unbalanced and lost ground.

For some distance near the 450 Metres was held up for clear running behind KING MILES.

From the 400 Metres until the 250 Metres was held up for clear running behind HIGHLAND RAHY.

C Y Ho (KING MILES) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 100 Metres he allowed his mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of GIDDY UP, resulting in GIDDY UP having to be checked to avoid KING MILES and losing its rightful running.

Having regard to Jockey Ho holding confirmed riding engagements for the remainder of the season and in accordance with previous practices, he was fined the sum of $50,000 in lieu of a one-day suspension.

In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his excellent race riding record.

Horse No 7 MOJAVE DESERT (J330) L Hewitson From a wide barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

From the 450 Metres until the 350 Metres was held up for clear running.

Horse No 8 GALVANIC (H147) A Badel Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start.

Horse No 9 KING MILES (J158) C Y Ho Shifted out at the start and bumped heavily with GIDDY UP.

C Y Ho pleaded guilty to a careless riding charge for causing interference approaching the 100 Metres (see GIDDY UP).

Sent for sampling post-race.

Horse No 11 MIGHTY STEED (J384) M Chadwick When questioned regarding his riding in the Home Straight, M Chadwick stated that after settling in a handy position, he placed his mount under full pressure making the Home Turn to attempt to improve into the event.

He said from the 500 Metres his mount did not respond to his riding which resulted in THE WINNABE improving to his outside and MIGHTY STEED being positioned behind LOVERO.

He added in the Home Straight MIGHTY STEED finished the race off in a one-paced manner, however, after the 200 Metres became held up behind LOVERO before shifting to that runner's outside at the 150 Metres.

The Stewards advised Jockey Chadwick that over the final 150 Metres he is required to ride his mount with more vigour than what he did on this occasion to ensure that it finishes in the best possible placing in the field.

Horse No 12 GREENWICH (H328) A Atzeni After the race, A Atzeni stated that his mount travelled satisfactorily outside the lead but gave ground quickly in the Home Straight.

He added the only explanation he would offer was that GREENWICH did not appreciate the step-up in Class 3 grade for tonight's meeting.

A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
