Recap by phillip woo
Early favourite June Planet bided his time at the rear of the field before showing a good turn of foot to take control of the race in deep stretch. It was his first win on his 11th start, but he had been knocking on the door and the riding change from Brenton Avdulla to Hugh Bowman worked the oracle. Prince Alex dashed well down the outside from near last to collar long-time leader and firming favourite Dragon Star for second. It was the best of his 15 local runs, and he appreciated his return to Happy Valley. Dragon Star gave a good sight in front but found a couple too good. He proved his near miss last week was not a fluke. Owners' Praise travelled third on the fence and ran on steadily to fill the frame. It was an OK effort backing up quickly following his unlucky run at Sha Tin on Sunday. Flying Silver only held his ground after travelling fourth on the rail. He has found things a lot harder in his past five starts after registering three Happy Valley 1,800m victories in the space of four runs. Reliable Profit tamely faded after tracking the leader on the fence. He did not build on his last-start dirt fourth but remains lightly raced.
