Racing Incident Report
Race Ten: (606) - WAN CHAI GAP HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1800Meters
BUTTERFIELD jumped awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, STRAIGHT ARRON and ALACRITY bumped when ALACRITY was positioned tight to the inside of BEAUTYVERSE.
From the outside barriers, SWEET ENCOUNTER, TURIN REDSUN and SPIRITED EXPRESS were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
For some distance near the 1200 Metres, CHAMPION DRAGON got its head up and raced ungenerously.
Approaching the 1200 Metres, BOURBONAIRE also got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover behind CHAMPION DRAGON.
After the 1100 Metres, BEAUTYVERSE was left racing wide and without cover.
SPIRITED EXPRESS was held up on the Home Turn and near the 400 Metres was shifted to the inside of LOOKING GREAT to secure clear running.
Between the 300 Metres and the 200 Metres, BUTTERFIELD was held up for clear running behind SAVVY NINE and then for some distance after the 200 Metres raced in restricted room between SAVVY NINE and CHAMPION DRAGON.
SWEET ENCOUNTER lay in under pressure in the Straight and near the 200 Metres its rider, Z Purton, was obliged to stop riding and correct his mount.
After the race, M Chadwick (CHAMPION DRAGON) reported that his intention was to hold the lead, but in the early stages when SWORD POINT improved to his outside and was travelling better, he elected to allow SWORD POINT to cross to the rail and lead and then positioned CHAMPION DRAGON to the outside of that runner.
He added that as CHAMPION DRAGON was pressured in the lead in the early stages, it was left without a finishing effort when placed under pressure in the Straight.
A veterinary inspection of CHAMPION DRAGON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

STRAIGHT ARRON and SWORD POINT were sent for sampling.
GENERAL:
1.
The Stewards opened an inquiry into the reasons for Trainer A S Cruz working fifteen horses on the Large All Weather Track this morning in breach of a proper direction issued by the Club which restricted the number any one trainer can work on the All Weather Track to three horses due to the inclement weather to allow adequate preparation of today's All Weather racing surface.
Evidence was today taken from Mr Cruz and Assistant Trainer W K Mo.
Mr Cruz pleaded guilty to a charge under Rule 50(3) of having failed to fulfil his responsibilities in compliance with a proper direction issued by the Club in that he worked twelve additional horses on the Large All Weather Track at this morning's track work session.
After considering matters in respect of penalty including this was Mr Cruz's second offence this season and the intentional breach of the direction by Mr Cruz, he was fined the sum of $100,000.
2.
Racing Laboratory tests of NATURAL STORM, ABOVE, OVER THE MOON, FAITHFUL TRINITY, CORDYCEPS ONE, ONE FOR ALL, WOOD ON FIRE, ZONE D, RATTAN KINGDOM, MALDIVES, ATOMIC ENERGY, G ONE EXCELLENT, EIGHTEEN PALMS, SPLENDID LIVING, HARMONY N HOME, HAPPY TRIO, E UNIVERSE, NIMBLE NIMBUS, ENCOUNTERED, GORYTUS, MAGNIAC, XPONENTIAL and ACT OF FAITH (12.4.23) proved negative.

Straight Arron showed a good turn of foot to win gearing down after hitting the front passing the 200m travelling three wide with cover approaching the final bend for a second win. He enjoyed the light weight but clearly has points in hand. Favourite Sword Point found one too smart after turning the final bend two lengths on top after leading from gate four. He ran well but found one better on the day. Punted late Sweet Encounter came from towards to fill a placing ridden for luck from gate 12. It was a return to form reunited with his favourite rider Zac Purton. Butterfield stayed on nicely near the inside from behind midfield to fill the frame. He had been racing well following a downgrade. Spirited Express came from last to finish next best. He went all right carrying more weight over a longer trip following a win over his favourite 1,600m. Alacrity ran on without threatening with one wider out after a wide trip towards the rear with late-market support. Beautyverse came up one paced over the final 150m out after getting posted wide without cover better than midfield.
