Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed Win Marilyn dashed nicely to take control 150m out for the win after turning the final bend widest out at the rear of the field. She was suited by the rise in trip after placing in her past two up to 2,200m in Japan. French raider Botanik went for home on top 250m out after working hard going forward three deep to eventually sit second 1,600m out. Early favourite Glory Vase ran on steadily after a rail run behind midfield to just miss second. He ran well but could not cap his career with a third win in this race. Panfield came with a ducking-and-weaving run for fourth without threatening the top three after making his run one from the rear. He was best of the locals and suited by the rise in trip. Irish hope Stone Age kept on one paced after a prominent run on the fence as the post-time favourite. He was disappointing. French invader Bubble Gift made headway late without threatening from the rear of the field. Senor Toba weakened 150m out despite getting his own way in front after clearing to the lead from a wide draw.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (236) - THE LONGINES HONG KONG VASE - Class G1 - 2400Meters

BOTANIK, which bumped a rail on entering the track, was examined by the Veterinary Officer on arrival at the Start and passed suitable to race.

After the start was effected, MENDOCINO reared abruptly and did not leave its barrier stall.

Accordingly, MENDOCINO took no part in the race.

As the Stewards were satisfied that MENDOCINO's actions at the start were all of its own doing and that the horse had been afforded a fair start, no further action was required.

BUBBLE GIFT was slow to begin and raced wide and without cover from the 1100 Metres.

BUTTERFIELD, which was leaning on the outside of its stall, began awkwardly.

After travelling a short distance, BROOME was crowded for room between BUTTERFIELD and BOTANIK which shifted out.

Near the 2200 Metres, STONE AGE raced tight inside WIN MARILYN.

PANFIELD was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BUTTERFIELD passing the 400 Metres when held up for clear running behind that horse.

Rounding the Home Turn, BROOME raced tight between BUBBLE GIFT and BUTTERFIELD which shifted out.

Then near the 250 Metres, BROOME, which was commencing to give ground, momentarily raced in restricted room between BUBBLE GIFT and BUTTERFIELD, both of which shifted ground.

Passing the 350 Metres, GLORY VASE shifted out and bumped BUTTERFIELD.

For the majority of the race, BROOME travelled wide and without cover.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on BUBBLE GIFT at the request of Trainer M Delzangles.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

A veterinary inspection of SENOR TOBA and STONE AGE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

STONE AGE, WIN MARILYN and BOTANIK were sent for sampling.
