Recap by phillip woo

Well-backed Brilliant Way kept on nicely after moving to the front 150m chasing the long-time leader Ka Xin Dragon for a second straight win and third from eight starts. He's only a three-year-old and there's clearly more to come from him. Buzzinga was closing with every stride for second after a rails run in midfield. The slow pace and pull in the weights was the difference in the end. Kai Xin Dragon held on for third after getting gifted an easy time in front from gate five. He was able to build on a win two back in Class Four. Favourite Sakewin produced a grinding effort after chasing the speed one-off in third. He wasn't able to cope with a sharp penalty last start. Packing Treadmill ran on reasonably well after getting posted deep towards the rear from a wide draw. It was a good run in defeat. Gluck Racer ran on steadily without menacing after making his run one from the rear. Lucky Fun never got into the act from towards the rear. He needed the run for his new trainer after a pastern injury in October. Majestic Knight weakened to finish last after a one-off trip in midfield. he couldn't build on an easy win last start.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (709) - EAGLE'S NEST HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters

WILD WEST WING shifted out at the start and bumped GLUCK RACER.

MAJESTIC KNIGHT began only fairly and then shifted out towards the heels of SAKEWIN, resulting in MAJESTIC KNIGHT losing ground.

After then being ridden along to make up ground, MAJESTIC KNIGHT commenced to travel keenly approaching the 1000 Metres and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of SAKEWIN.

MAGIC SUPREME, which was following MAJESTIC KNIGHT, was steadied away from the heels of that horse after the 950 Metres in consequence.

After this, MAJESTIC KNIGHT continued to travel keenly and was awkwardly placed behind SAKEWIN for some distance.

After the 800 Metres, WILD WEST WING was left racing wide and without cover.

On pulling up, J Moreira was dislodged from SAKEWIN, 4th placegetter, after that horse shifted out.

As Jockey Moreira was not able to weigh in after the race due to being transported to the Jockey Medical Room for examination, acting under the powers of Rule 112(5), the Stewards declared weighed-in on the numbers semaphored by the Judge as they were satisfied that there were no circumstances which suggested that less than the proper weight had been carried throughout the race.

J Moreira was subsequently examined by the Chief Medical Officer who said that he was not suitable to fulfil his remaining race riding engagements.

When questioned, Z Purton stated that, from the outside barrier, it was decided for PACKING TREADMILL to be ridden more quietly today than has previously been the case.

He said as there were a considerable number of horses drawn more favourably than PACKING TREADMILL which had previously been ridden for speed in their races, it was felt that if PACKING TREADMILL were to be ridden positively, that horse would likely be left racing wide and without cover.

He said therefore it was decided that being ridden conservatively, given the composition of today's field, would provide PACKING TREADMILL with the best opportunity to finish the race off.

A veterinary inspection of MAJESTIC KNIGHT immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm.

Before being allowed to race again, MAJESTIC KNIGHT will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

SAKEWIN, BRILLIANT WAY and BUZZINGA were sent for sampling.
