Recap by phillip woo
Favourite Will Power came from last to overhaul Californiadeepshot 150m out to remain perfect in two runs over this dirt trip. He's a dirt freak and had the pace run to suit. Red Desert got up in the last stride for second after biding his time one from the rear. He's always a chance of running a big race on this surface. Californiadeepshot kept on gamely for a placing after rolling to the lead 250m out after a prominent run on the fence. He's as honest as the day is long on either surface. Telecom Fighters kept on evenly after easing out of a three-horse duel to settle one-off in third at the 1,000m. It wasn't a disastrous run after attacking a slick pace. Kings Shield eventually emerged for the lead but had no more to offer 200m out. He was given no chance to catch his breath in front and retreated as expected. Hongkong Great was a spent force 650m out after being hustled along to vie for the front three-deep from an awkward gate. He was given no chance in the run but was having his first start following throat surgery in November.
