Recap by phillip woo
Will Power took control 150m out after improving from last to have two behind him rounding the final bend. He had no troubles with a step up to a mile after six prior wins sprinting on this surface. Californiadeepshot reclaimed the lead from Telecom Fighters 500m out but found one too good on the day. It was another solid effort despite a rise in trip. Red Desert came from last at the top of the straight to finish a distant third. He only got by struggling rivals. Telecom Fighters was stopping after working forward four-wide to lead one off the fence 1,000m out. It wasn't a bad effort after a very hard run. Early favourite Silver Express didn't give a yelp after settling one off in fifth in his initial AWT run here. It was a surprise to see him confidently backed among the favourites after a very hard ridden second in a recent dirt trial. Post-time favourite The Rock was disappointing after getting all favours on the leader's back. It was an out-of-character effort. Kings Shield failed to muster speed to lead and was gone a long way out. He's not reliable.
