Recap by phillip woo
Specked late Buddies was perfectly rated in front by Mathew Chadwick and kept kicking after straightening two lengths on top to score an upset win. He goes well second-up and performs best over this trip. Well-backed Tourbillon Diamond stayed on nicely to finish a close second after a box-seat run. He was badly handicapped but relished a step up to 1,400m off a light weight after a pleasing run on opening day over the 1,200m. Joao Moreira's choice of sticking to an inside run on the odds-on favourite Sky Darci after a rail run travelling towards the rear cost him any chance of winning as he was held up at crucial stages. He should remain a force in Group races at 1,400m and further this season. Duke Wai kept on one-paced over the last 100m tracking the leader from a tricky gate. It wasn't a bad effort up in class over a longer trip. Champion's Way got going late from near last to finish next best without menacing the top-four. He needs a stronger pace. Southern Legend came up one-paced travelling one off in midfield. He needed this run and was giving away plenty of weight all around. Might Giant faded badly after rolling forward out deep to sit second 800m out after a slow start.
