Recap by phillip woo

Well-supported Wellington won going away 60m out carrying a light weight after gaining a clear run at the 200m following a rails run in midfield to remain unbeaten in five starts over this trip. He was able to equal the Class One record of Sacred Kingdom and looks a rising star in the sprint ranks. Computer Patch nearly stole the race after straightening two lengths on top. It was a return to form after disappointing in his past three starts. Plunged late, Sky Field finished well to fill a placing after a patient ride third from the rear. Like the winner, he was badly handicapped but showed that he has a very bright future as a sprinter. Winning Dreamer came up one-paced over the last 100m after a pace-stalking run. He likely needed the effort in his first start following a New Year's Day defeat with blood in his trachea. Hot King Prawn came up flat following a prominent run. He wasn't able to quicken carrying top weight. Regency Legend ran on without menacing after a one-off run in midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (504) - LANTAU ISLAND HANDICAP - Class 1 - 1200Meters

On arrival at the Start, it was noted that BUDDIES had blood at its mouth.

BUDDIES was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

BIG PARTY was bumped on jumping by VOYAGE WARRIOR which shifted out.

After this, BIG PARTY, from the outside barrier, was shifted across behind runners.

WELLINGTON stumbled at the start, shifted out and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of HOT KING PRAWN.

Passing the 1100 Metres, WELLINGTON became unbalanced after being bumped by REGENCY LEGEND (Z Purton) which shifted in.

Z Purton was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he exercises more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

After the 1100 Metres, when being steadied, VOYAGE WARRIOR was hampered when awkwardly placed outside REGENCY LEGEND.

WELLINGTON had some difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.

When questioned, A Hamelin (VOYAGE WARRIOR) stated that when he had ridden the horse in a trial in the lead up to today's race, he was asked to obtain cover on VOYAGE WARRIOR which he was able to do.

He said in that trial VOYAGE WARRIOR finished off well and therefore he was again asked to ride the horse with cover today.

He said from the wide barrier it had been hoped that VOYAGE WARRIOR may be able to obtain a midfield position, however, due to the makeup of the field in the early stages, that position was not available and therefore he was obliged to steady VOYAGE WARRIOR towards the rear of the field to obtain cover behind REGENCY LEGEND.

When questioned, Z Purton (REGENCY LEGEND) stated that after the 500 Metres he commenced to ride his mount along to improve with HOT KING PRAWN.

He said REGENCY LEGEND did not quicken as he had anticipated and he was not able to sprint with HOT KING PRAWN.

He said approaching the 300 Metres SKY FIELD commenced to improve its position quickly to the inside of REGENCY LEGEND and as REGENCY LEGEND was not travelling well, he was not able to prevent that horse from shifting ground.

He said this resulted in REGENCY LEGEND being awkwardly placed outside SKY FIELD.

He added once SKY FIELD quickened forward of REGENCY LEGEND, he placed his mount under pressure, however, the horse finished off the race only fairly.

He said although the horse had performed satisfactorily in a barrier trial in the lead up to today's race when ridden by him, he was of the opinion that its first up success after a long period away from racing had impacted on the horse's failure to quicken in today's race.

A veterinary inspection of REGENCY LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When REGENCY LEGEND shifted out near the 300 Metres, BIG PARTY was steadied and shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence.

A veterinary inspection of BIG PARTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

HOT KING PRAWN, WELLINGTON and COMPUTER PATCH were sent for sampling.
