Recap by phillip woo

Drifting out in betting, Silver Fig came with a bold move from last at the top of the straight to grab victory 30m out. He's loves this surface and was suited by the lighter weight despite a rise in class. Punted late, We The South led comfortably from gate seven and fought back doggedly when headed 100m out by Red Desert to grab second in the last few strides. It was a smart debut run on this surface carrying a light weight up in grade. Red Desert peaked on his run 50m out after claiming the lead 100m out following a pace-stalking run. He doesn't know how to run a bad race on this surface. Highland Fortune stayed on well to just miss a placing despite a four-wide run without cover in midfield. He keeps promising without delivering on either surface. Czarson ran on steadily without ever looking a threat after a four-wide run with cover behind midfield. He had an excuse. Favourite Will Power made some ground without menacing after a three-wide run with cover behind midfield. The big weight took its toll. Elite Patch left things too late near the inside after settling second last in the run.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (448) - LUCKY NINE HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1200Meters

SILVER FIG began only fairly and then was crowded for room outside CZARSON which shifted out.

After this, SILVER FIG was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.

YOUNG LEGEND lost its left front plate at the start.

From the outside barriers, ELITE PATCH and HONG KONG BET were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.

Passing the 400 Metres, SUNNY BOY raced tight outside the heels of UGLY WARRIOR.

Close to the finishing line, RED DESERT raced tight outside WE THE SOUTH which shifted out under pressure.

Throughout the race, HIGHLAND FORTUNE and SUNNY BOY travelled wide and without cover.

After the race, J Moreira stated that UGLY WARRIOR travelled well in the early and middle stages after obtaining a position behind RED DESERT.

He said after shifting UGLY WARRIOR out into clear running rounding the Home Turn, his mount did not quicken as he anticipated and after coming under heavy pressure passing the 300 Metres commenced to give ground near the 200 Metres and then weakened noticeably over the concluding stages.

A veterinary inspection of UGLY WARRIOR immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, UGLY WARRIOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of SUNNY BOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

CZARSON, SILVER FIG and WE THE SOUTH were sent for sampling.
