Recap by phillip woo
Favourite Waikuku quickened nicely to take control 200m out after a perfect trip one-off in midfield for a second Group One win. He had run well in back-to-back mile failures behind Golden Sixty and loves the 1,400m. Southern Legend grab second 150m out after a peeling off the fence to sit one off in third coming to the final bend. He's as honest as the day is long. Well-backed late, Mighty Giant ran on well to just edge More Than This for third settling behind midfield on the fence after a tardy start. It was a good effort at set weights. More Than This rallied nicely from near last to just miss a placing by a bob of heads. It was a better effort at just his second outing this term. Ka Ying Star straightened two lengths on top after assuming the lead from Buddies 900m out but came up onepaced over the final 100m. He's a better miler. Well-backed late, Champions Way never featured at all after making his run at the back of the field. He's a good 1,400m horse but not good enough at set weights in this class.
