Recap by phillip woo

Wellington just held off the fast-finishing Duke Wai for the win after hitting the front 300m out following a one-out, one-back run. He's now won five of seven starts and remains unbeaten in four outings over this course and distance. Duke Wai was rapidly closing late after a one-off run behind midfield. He was finally able to show his true colours after some unlucky runs. Roman Turbo stuck on well for a placing following a handy run one off the fence from a wide draw. He's made a good impression for minor placings in four of five starts and will be saluting shortly. All In Mind closed well to finish a non-threatening fourth after straightening third from the rear. He's capable of a big run over this trip. Super Wealthy made good ground late down the outside to just miss a spot in the first four after biding his time at the rear of the field. It was a nice effort.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine: (429) - FAT CHOI HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1200Meters

Whilst in the saddling stalls, ROMAN TURBO had its right hind plate refitted.

ROMAN TURBO was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.

On entering the track, SKY FIELD bumped a rail.

On arrival at the Start, SKY FIELD was examined by the Veterinary Officer and passed suitable to race.

DUKE WAI shifted out at the start, resulting in BEAUTY RUSH being crowded for room inside SIGHT SUCCESS.

ALL IN MIND began awkwardly.

SUPER WEALTHY was crowded for room on jumping between SHINING ACE and WELLINGTON which shifted out.

From the outside barrier, SKY FIELD was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After the 800 Metres, SHINING ACE was left racing wide and without cover.

Approaching the 500 Metres, SHINING ACE was taken wider by DUKE WAI which shifted to the outside of ROMAN TURBO.

Apprentice C L Chau (DUKE WAI) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 250 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of ROMAN TURBO, resulting in that horse being taken in across the rightful running of BEAUTY RUSH which was checked and in turn hampered SKY FIELD which at that time was improving into tight running between BEAUTY RUSH and CALIFORNIADEEPSHOT.

Apprentice Chau was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 24 February 2021 and to expire on Monday, 1 March 2021 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

In addition, Apprentice Chau was fined $40,000.

WELLINGTON made the Home Turn awkwardly.

SKY FIELD had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and near the 300 Metres raced tight between BEAUTY RUSH and CALIFORNIADEEPSHOT.

A veterinary inspection of SIGHT SUCCESS immediately following the race found that horse to be lame in its right front leg and an endoscopic examination also showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, SIGHT SUCCESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

SIGHT SUCCESS, WELLINGTON and DUKE WAI were sent for sampling.
