Recap by phillip woo

Punted late Furore quickened nicely from towards the rear to take control near the 100m. It was his first win since the Derby in 2019 but he has improved since joining the Tony Cruz yard late last season and the booking of Joao Moreira worked the oracle. Favourite Exultant stayed on very well for second following a one-out, one-back run carrying top weight. He ran well over an inadequate trip and is in for another good season. Dances With Dragon was hitting the line with purpose late to fill a placing. He got too far back from a tricky gate. In the market late, Southern Legend grudgingly gave way after rolling to the lead 1,000m out. The fractions were a bit on the quick side but he's as honest as the day is long. Ho Ho Khan ran on reasonably well after a patient ride third from the rear. It was a better effort second-up this season. Preciousship kept on all right following a rail run behind midfield. He finds it tough at this level.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (155) - THE SA SA LADIES' PURSE (HANDICAP) - Class G3 - 1800Meters

TIME WARP was withdrawn on raceday morning by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore).

Before being allowed to race again, TIME WARP will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

SUPER OASIS began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped DANCES WITH DRAGON which in turn shifted out and bumped SOUTHERN LEGEND.

After this, DANCES WITH DRAGON was steadied to obtain cover.

SAVVY NINE shifted out at the start and made contact with BUTTERFIELD.

From a wide barrier, SINGAPORE SLING was shifted across behind runners in the early stages, however, was left racing wide and without cover near the 1000 Metres.

Passing the 1700 Metres, PRECIOUSSHIP was awkwardly placed inside the heels of DARK DREAM.

Near the 250 Metres, HO HO KHAN was shifted to the outside of PRECIOUSSHIP after being disappointed for running inside that horse.

When questioned, M Chadwick stated that as he was instructed to take up a forward position on CHEFANO, he had to make a lot of use of the horse in the early stages to clear runners to his inside and race outside SOUTHERN LEGEND after the 1400 Metres.

He said after coming under heavy pressure prior to the 750 Metres, CHEFANO did not respond to his riding and gave ground noticeably in the early part of the Straight.

Mr D A Hayes, the trainer of CHEFANO, stated that in pre-race discussions with the owners of the horse, it was felt that following the withdrawal of TIME WARP, CHEFANO may be able to obtain a forward position from the outside barrier due to the horse carrying a very light weight.

He said CHEFANO had previously been ridden in a forward position over the course and distance and the owners felt that the circumstances of the race provided the horse with the opportunity to be ridden prominently.

He added CHEFANO had to be ridden far more aggressively than was anticipated to obtain a forward position and because of this was then not able to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of CHEFANO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of BUTTERFIELD and SAVVY NINE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

FURORE and EXULTANT were sent for sampling.
