Mongolian King dashed strongly down the outside to just miss after a patient ride fourth from the rear. He's racing well on both surfaces at the moment. Dan Control stuck on well for a placing after getting into a nice spot one off in fourth from gate 14. He's caught the eye in back-to-back runs after a suspensory injury in January. Beauty Rush faded to finish a non-threatening fourth after rolling forward from a wide gate to sit outside the leader 1,050m out. Water Diviner ran on steadily without menacing after a rail run worse than midfield. High Rev made noticeable ground late from the rear of the field. He's more effective at a mile especially at the Valley. Uncle Steve came up flat 100m out after looming a chance passing the 200m following a deep run at times behind midfield.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten: (728) - BUTTERFLY HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1400Meters

TRANSCENDENT and EASY GO EASY WIN were crowded for room on jumping between HIGH REV and PRINCE OF FROG which shifted in.

STAR SHINE was checked and lost ground and UNCLE STEVE badly hampered on jumping when crowded for room between MONGOLIAN KING and BEAUTY RUSH (Apprentice K H Chan) which shifted in.

Apprentice Chan was reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he must make every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground.

In this incident, MONGOLIAN KING became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by STAR SHINE.

At the 1000 Metres, MORETHANLUCKY was steadied away from the heels of DAN CONTROL (J Moreira) which shifted in when not properly clear.

J Moreira was severely reprimanded.

Approaching the 900 Metres, TRANSCENDENT (C Y Ho) shifted out away from the heels of MORETHANLUCKY and bumped GLORIOUS SPECTRUM.

After this, GLORIOUS SPECTRUM was steadied to obtain cover behind TRANSCENDENT.

C Y Ho was reprimanded and told to ensure that he exercises due care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

Passing the 350 Metres, HIGH REV was shifted to the inside of INVINCIBLE MISSILE as that horse shifted out away from WATER DIVINER.

HIGH REV was then inclined to lay in when placed under pressure.

EASY GO EASY WIN had some difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 200 Metres.

After the race, A Hamelin was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of GLORIOUS SPECTRUM.

He said the horse was under pressure throughout the race to maintain its position and after becoming unbalanced near the 900 Metres was always off the bridle.

He said based on the manner in which the horse weakened out of the race in the Straight, he was of the opinion that GLORIOUS SPECTRUM may not have handled today's track conditions.

A veterinary inspection of GLORIOUS SPECTRUM immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

The performance of GLORIOUS SPECTRUM, favourite for today's race, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, GLORIOUS SPECTRUM will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of TRANSCENDENT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

GLORIOUS SPECTRUM, PERFECT MATCH and MONGOLIAN KING were sent for sampling.

Race 7 (716) C Y Ho (BUTTERFIELD) was spoken to regarding using the whip forward of the saddle over the concluding stages.

b.

Race 8 (717) The Stewards today interviewed Mr W Y So, the trainer of DIVINE UNICORN, regarding the improved performance of the horse.

He said DIVINE UNICORN was having only its third start since being transferred to his stable and, in his opinion, had been showing improvement.

He said at its most recent start he had instructed for the horse to be ridden quietly due to the outside barrier as he felt that too much use of the horse would have to be made to obtain a prominent position.

He said at the start prior to that he had instructed for the horse to be ridden more positively, however, for the majority of the race it travelled wide and without cover and consequently was not able to finish off the race.

He said in the subject race DIVINE UNICORN was able to be ridden in a more forward position from a favourable barrier and had benefited by the race being run at a good temp.

He added he had found DIVINE UNICORN to be somewhat one-paced, so the horse having been drawn favourably and being able to be ridden more prominently and then being suited by the tempo of the race had resulted in DIVINE UNICORN being able to finish off the race well.
