Recap by phillip woo
The brilliant Exultant had to work hard from a wide gate to eventually settle behind the leader Time Warp, went to the front 500m out and kept finding to ring up another Group One win as the odds-on choice. Chefano stayed on nicely to edge Furore for second after peeling outside Exultant into a three wide spot 1,000m out. It was a huge run in defeat after a hard run and giving the winner 15 pounds. Punted late Furore was beaten only a length in the end after travelling Indian file for the most part in fourth. Savvy Nine got going to fill the frame without menacing the top three. It was an honest effort. Helene Charisma had no more to offer 250m out after looming a chance from midfield entering the straight. He's not good enough over the 2,400m at this level. Eagle Way was never a factor. He's staring retirement in the face. Time Warp didn't get the trip after getting softened for the lead early on by the winner.
