Recap by phillip woo
Odds-on Exultant drove forward to sit outside the leader Time Warp at the 1,200m, advanced to the front 350m out and had enough left in the tank to hold off stablemate Furore to add the prestigious QE II Cup to his sterling resume. Punted late Furore finished nicely after a prominent run to make it close in the end. He's an improved runner after joining the Tony Cruz yard. Eagle Way came from near the back down the outside to fill a placing but was well behind the top pair. It was a good effort but he's beyond his better days. Well-backed late Playa Del Puente came from last against six others to fill the frame. It wasn't a bad performance against the top middle-distance performers at set weights. Time Warp was stopping 200m out after getting a relatively easy time in front. He was likely over the top after stealing the Gold Cup last time out. Glorious Dragon was disappointing after a one-out, one-back run. He's at his best when ridden for luck.
