Recap by phillip woo

Old-timer Lotus Breeze easily took control 200m out after a quiet run on the fence behind midfield. He had been unlucky in several earlier runs and gate one certainly helped. Punted late Liverbird Star just out-finished Big Bully to finish a distant second after settling outside the eventual winner in the run. He's a winner waiting to happen. Favourite Big Bully closed off nicely three from the right but left things too late travelling settling fourth last from a wide gate. It was another honest effort and it's only a matter of time before he salutes. Whisky Knight kept on reasonably well to hold fourth after being headed rounding the final bend for the lead by Ruminare. Specked late Victorious Leader made good ground late down the outside after settling last following a slow start from gate 14 to earn a minor cheque for the first time in his 10 career starts. Soccer Master made some ground near the inside after travelling among the backmarkers.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (789) - OWNERSHIP PRIDE 1400M HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1400Meters

LOTUS BREEZE began only fairly.

VICTORIOUS LEADER began awkwardly and then from the outside barrier was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

Also from wide barriers, BIG BULLY and ROOKIE STAR were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.

Shortly after the start, WHISKY KNIGHT shifted out and bumped SOCCER MASTER which was then crowded for room inside MASSIVE POWER.

SOCCER MASTER was shifted across behind runners shortly after this.

From making the turn near the 900 Metres until rounding the Home Turn, FOX CHEUNGER got its head on the side and hung out, resulting in the horse losing ground when awkwardly placed inside the heels of SWEETIE BARLEY after the 800 Metres, inside LOTUS BREEZE approaching the 600 Metres and again when inside SOCCER MASTER near the 550 Metres.

The racing manners of FOX CHEUNGER were considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, FOX CHEUNGER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial around a bend.

Rounding the Home Turn, SWEETIE BARLEY lay out and then passing the 400 Metres shifted out and bumped SEIZE THE SPIRIT, causing both horses to become unbalanced.

BIG BULLY, which was following and which had been held up for clear running, was shifted out away from the heels of SWEETIE BARLEY approaching the 350 Metres and bumped SEIZE THE SPIRIT.

SEIZE THE SPIRIT then shifted out and inconvenienced VICTORIOUS LEADER which was attempting to improve into tight running between SEIZE THE SPIRIT and ROOKIE STAR.

Passing the 200 Metres, WHISKY KNIGHT shifted out and raced tight with LOTUS BREEZE.

Then passing the 150 Metres, WHISKY KNIGHT was briefly awkwardly placed inside the heels of LOTUS BREEZE which shifted in under pressure.

Throughout the race, MASSIVE POWER travelled wide and without cover and then in the Straight gave ground.

The performance of MASSIVE POWER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, MASSIVE POWER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of MASSIVE POWER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When questioned, M L Yeung stated that GAINFULJET was more agitated in the barriers today than it had been when previously ridden by him.

He said the horse turned its head on a number of occasions after being loaded which required the starting gate handler having to correct it.

He said just prior to the start being effected GAINFULJET turned its head to the left and as he straightened the horse's head as the gates opened which resulted in GAINFULJET beginning awkwardly and losing ground.

He said because of this GAINFULJET was required to race at the rear of the field rather than leading the race as intended.

He added when racing at the rear of the field, GAINFULJET did not travel well at any stage and consequently finished tailed out.

The performance of GAINFULJET was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, GAINFULJET will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of GAINFULJET immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.

A veterinary inspection of SUREWIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

BIG BULLY, LOTUS BREEZE and LIVERBIRD STAR were sent for sampling.
