Favourite Jade Theatre was much too good after peeling out at the top of the straight following a prominent run along the fence. He saluted as expected following two very unlucky runs this term. Mr Picasso closed well travelling worse than midfield to grab second close to home. It was a solid run on the back of a recent win in Class Four and he should remain competitive in this grade off lighter weights. Telecom Brother kept on well following a midfield run to fill a placing at huge odds. He appears to be heading in the right direction now after an improved run first-up over the straight 1,000m this term. Sparkling Dragon gave way after vying for the lead from a wide gate with Zero Hedge. He went a bit too hard. Jumbo Happiness stayed on all right after a deep run beyond midfield with the claimer in play. He's been mixing good runs with bad runs. Zero Hedge retreated after duelling for the front on the fence. He still appeared to need the run.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (126) - PERFECT GEAR HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Meters



KEEP WINNING was crowded for room on jumping between MIDNIGHT RATTLER and TELECOM BROTHERS which shifted out.

JOLLY CONVERGENCE and MR PICASSO bumped at the start.

HARRIER JET and PHANTOM FALCON, which began awkwardly, were crowded for room on jumping between SPARKLING DRAGON and JUMBO HAPPINESS which shifted out.

In this incident, SPARKLING DRAGON became unbalanced after being bumped by PHANTOM FALCON.

After the 800 Metres, JUMBO HAPPINESS was left racing wide and without cover.

MR PICASSO made the turn after the 600 Metres awkwardly, shifted out and bumped JUMBO HAPPINESS.

Passing the 150 Metres, PHANTOM FALCON, which was giving ground, was momentarily steadied away from the heels of MR PICASSO which shifted out.

Close to the finishing line, ZERO HEDGE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SPARKLING DRAGON and consequently was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.

After the race, M Chadwick reported that HERO TIME did not travel comfortably at any stage of the race and, despite being hard ridden for the majority of the race, would not improve its position.

A veterinary inspection of HERO TIME immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.

Before being allowed to race again, HERO TIME will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

When questioned, D Whyte stated that, from a wide barrier, he was asked to shift HARRIER JET across behind runners in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the rail.

He said making the first turn near the 1000 Metres he was trailing JOLLY CONVERGENCE and he anticipated that HARRIER JET would be able to maintain this position.

He said the tempo of the race after the 1000 Metres was quite quick and HARRIER JET, despite being ridden along, was unable to maintain its positon behind JOLLY CONVERGENCE.

He said despite his endeavours, HARRIER JET was unable to make up ground to obtain a position closer to the runners in front and this resulted in HARRIER JET getting out of its ground in the early stages.

He said, in his opinion, he would have had to ride HARRIER JET quite aggressively in order to make limited ground and whilst he was not comfortable that HARRIER JET had got out of its ground, he did not believe that it would be able to finish off the race strongly if he was required to ride the horse too aggressively.

He added HARRIER JET was able to make up ground on the runners in front rounding the Home Turn and then made up good ground along the rail until the concluding stages.

He said he did not anticipate that ZERO HEDGE and SPARKLING DRAGON would weaken as they did over the concluding stages and when HARRIER JET finished off the race strongly, this resulted in HARRIER JET being awkwardly placed behind ZERO HEDGE and SPARKLING DRAGON over the final stages.

D Whyte was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, he was told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from getting too far out of their ground.

He was also advised to ensure that he positions his mounts such that they are able to obtain clear running in the Straight wherever circumstances permit.

JADE THEATRE and MR PICASSO were sent for sampling.


GENERAL:

1.

The following horse was replated in the saddling stalls:- Race 5: POWER MAN (right fore)

After the running of Race 2, the track classification was officially changed from "Good??to "Good to Firm?? This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective.

As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 2 being run on a track rated "Good to Firm??

21 October 2018 Sha Tin Racemeeting - Race 10 (118) The Stewards questioned Apprentice C Wong regarding his riding of JOYFUL TRINITY after the 700 Metres.

Apprentice Wong stated that he was instructed to obtain a midfield position if possible and then to shift his mount out into clear running at the top of the Straight to make his final run.

He said after obtaining the position behind RAGING STORM in about midfield, JOYFUL TRINITY travelled well in the early stages.

He said although he had the opportunity to shift out from behind RAGING STORM after the 700 Metres, he elected to remain racing behind that horse as he did not want to cover what he considered to be unnecessary ground making the turn after the 600 Metres.

He said for this reason he remained racing behind RAGING STORM rather than shifting out into a three wide position to follow GOOD STANDING.

He added this allowed STAR MAJESTIC to improve its position around JOYFUL TRINITY after the 600 Metres.

He said he was not overly concerned regarding STAR MAJESTIC improving at this time as he was of the opinion that STAR MAJESTIC, which he considered to be an outsider in this race, would not be able to maintain its position in the early part of the Straight and this would allow him the opportunity to shift out from behind RAGING STORM without JOYFUL TRINITY being overly held up.

He said whilst JOYFUL TRINITY was momentarily awkwardly placed inside STAR MAJESTIC and behind RAGING STORM as that horse shifted out to obtain a run, JOYFUL TRINITY was then able to obtain clear running after the 400 Metres.

Apprentice Wong was reprimanded and informed that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he had erred in not shifting to the outside of RAGING STORM and following GOOD STANDING after the 700 Metres as being shifted out at this time would not have resulted in JOYFUL TRINITY having to cover any tangible extra ground whilst also providing JOYFUL TRINITY with the opportunity of shifting to the outside of GOOD STANDING immediately on straightening rather than being in an awkward position and having to shift to the outside of RAGING STORM.

He was advised to ensure that he rides his mounts in such a manner so that they are able to improve their position wherever reasonable and to obtain clear running at the earliest available opportunity.

Additional Veterinary Reports from Sha Tin Racemeeting on 21 October 2018 Subsequent official veterinary inspections (without endoscopy) of LE PANACHE, HO HO FEEL, HAPPY ROCKY, SUNNY POWER, CHEERFUL BOY, YOUNG GLORY, COMPLACENCY, EMERALD SPUR, GLORIOUS FOREVER, PIKACHU, CITY LEGEND, HAPPY SEBRING, ABSOLUCOOL, BIGWOOD, HIGH VOLATILITY, HOT KING PRAWN, FIFTY FIFTY, BEAUTY GENERATION, SINGAPORE SLING, HANDSOME BO BO, KING OPIE, MIGHTY MAVERICK, SIMPLY BRILLIANT, CITRON SPIRIT and GOOD STANDING revealed no apparent abnormality.

Racing Laboratory tests of BIG PARTY, STRATHALLAN, HAINAN STAR, BEAUTY DAY, WILLIE WAY, GREAT TREASURE, RICHCITY FORTUNE, GLITTERING ARMOUR, M REBORN, JUST NOT LISTENING, SAM'S LOVE, HAVE FUN TOGETHER, FORTUNATE RUNNER, FOLLOW ME, MONKEY JEWELLERY, HAPPY TOUR, E MASTER, RAGING BLITZKRIEG, GO PUBLIC, HARBOUR ALERT, CIRCUIT NUMBER TWO, VICTORY BOYS, WORLD RECORD, PICK NUMBER ONE, UGLY WARRIOR, CALCULATION, NOBLE STEED, INVINCIBLE FRESH and LADY FIRST (13.10.18) proved negative.
