Racing Incident Report
Race Eight: (362) - LUNG KONG HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1400Meters
PENANG HALL was withdrawn on 18.1.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore).
Before being allowed to race again, PENANG HALL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
RACING SUPERNOVA began only fairly and then shortly after the start was awkwardly placed outside MAGIC LEGEND which shifted out on jumping.
Shortly after the start, SPICY SURE and EASTERN EXPRESS raced tight.
Approaching and passing the 1100 Metres, HAPPY AGILITY and BABA MAMA travelled keenly.
Passing the 1100 Metres, SPICY SURE got its head up when being steadied to allow PINGWU SPARK to cross.
For some distance after this, SPICY SURE was awkwardly placed behind PINGWU SPARK.
In the early stages, BORN IN CHINA was left racing wide and passing the 1100 Metres was allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead after the 900 Metres.
After the 900 Metres, EASTERN EXPRESS was left racing wide and without cover.
Approaching the 500 Metres, BABA MAMA and PINGWU SPARK raced tight as BABA MAMA improved around PINGWU SPARK.
Approaching the 350 Metres, SPICY SURE was awkwardly placed behind EASTERN EXPRESS.
Then near the 350 Metres, EASTERN EXPRESS became unbalanced.
A veterinary inspection of EASTERN EXPRESS immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a superficial wound over the back of the left hind tendon region.
Approaching the 200 Metres, EASY GO EASY WIN was held up for clear running.
RACING SUPERNOVA was unable to obtain clear running at any stage in the Straight and consequently was not able to be tested.
PINGWU SPARK and WAH MAY FRIEND were sent for sampling.

Favourite Pingwu Spark shouldered out coming to the final bend sitting fore of midfield and wore down Wah May Friend over the last 150m to ring up a fifth win from six starts this term. Wah May Friend was nicely rated on the lead and wouldn't go away without a fight. He's racing in great spirit and appears to have the tools to add to two earlier sprints at both tracks. Easy Go Easy Win closed well to grab third after getting out of traffic at the 250m sitting behind midfield. He's clearly up to the challenge at this level following a debut win in Class Three and should get up to a mile in time. Specked late, Spicy Sure stayed on reasonably well to finish a distant fourth despite getting shuffled back to beyond midfield coming to the final bend. He's a Class Three horse but should remain competitive in this grade off a light weight. Born In China was on his tippy toes 150m out after working forward from a wide gate to sit second in the run.
