Racing Incident Report
Race Five: (468)-GLOUCESTER HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1800Metres
RAPID TRIUMPH was withdrawn on 7.3.16 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore foot) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MONSIEUR MOGOK.Before being allowed to race again, RAPID TRIUMPH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
REAL GENEROUS and SYSTEM OVERLOAD were slow to begin.
SPEEDY WALLY began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, SPEEDY WALLY got its head up when being steadied to be shifted across behind runners.
SPEEDY WALLY then commenced to prove difficult to settle.
SYSTEM OVERLOAD lost its left front plate near the 1650 Metres.
For some distance after the 1600 Metres, SPEEDY WALLY, which was continuing to prove difficult to settle, was checked away from the heels of CALIFORNIA CHERISH.
After the 1300 Metres, SPEEDY WALLY was left racing wide and without cover and after the 900 Metres was allowed to improve its position, however, continued to race wide and without cover.
When questioned, C Schofield (PENGLAI XIANZI) stated that after beginning awkwardly, his mount commenced to veer towards the outside rail and took some effort and distance to straighten and then moved across towards the main body of the field.
He said after this PENGLAI XIANZI got its head up on a number of occasions approaching the winning post on the first occasion.
The racing manners of PENGLAI XIANZI in the early part of the race were considered unacceptable.
Before being allowed to race again, PENGLAI XIANZI will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial.
In the early part of the Straight, SMART UNION raced tight inside SPEEDY WALLY which got its head on the side and lay in under pressure.
SUPER SILKS was held up for clear running until passing the 200 Metres.
GOLD TALENT had some difficulty obtaining clear running approaching and passing the 150 Metres.
A veterinary inspection of PACKING GO GO, CALIFORNIA CHERISH, GOLD TALENT and PENGLAI XIANZI immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
WEALTHY FORTUNE and PO CHING TREASURE were sent for sampling.

Wealthy Fortune pressed forward from a wide gate to sit one off in second behind the leader Po Ching Treasure at the 1,200m, advanced to the front 200m out and kept on well thereafter after to score at his second run following a stable change. Late-fancied favourite Po Ching Treasure was well-rated on the lead, cornered a length on top and found one too good in the run to the wire. Smart Union stayed on reasonably well for a placing after a one-out, one-back run. Punted late, Super Silks only battled away in fourth after pulling out for a clear run 200m out following a box-seat run. Early favourite Monsieur Mogok was getting going after pulling widest out at the 300m following a patient ride second from the rear. Real Generous settled third from the rear near the inside, straightened four deep and finished well without menacing. System Overload switched into the open with three wider out after travelling behind midfield along the fence and was grinding away without ever looking a chance. Speedy Wally was struggling 150m out after a prominent run without cover. California Cherish never let down with one wider out after travelling three deep with cover behind Speedy Wally.
