Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Funny Fortune eased back after flying the gates to enjoy the lovely run on the back of the leader Choice Exchequer, reclaimed the lead 440m out, built a near three-length advantage soon after straightening and kept on gamely for a maiden win at his 23rd start following a key riding change to Joao Moreira. Mr Vanilla made a ducking-and-weaving move after travelling third from the rear to easily take second. Medic Swordsman travelled behind midfield along the rails, pushed into the open with one wider out upon straightening and finished willingly to grab a placing. He'll be winning shortly if he remains in the grade. Bornfree settled one off the fence around midfield, moved closer approaching the final bend and only plodded over the last 100m. Southchina Command settled second from the rear, swung the final bend widest out and was doing his best work late when the race was all but over. Dragon Glory ran on steadily without menacing four deep after travelling one off the fence worse than midfield. Cool Pal peaked on his run 100m out after a deep run without cover near the speed. Choice Exchequer was gone before the final bend after finding the front 1,300m out following a sluggish break from a wide gate.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (235)-NEW ZEALAND HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1650Metres

MEDIC SWORDSMAN began only fairly.

On jumping, COOL PAL was crowded for room between MR VANILLA and FUNNY FORTUNE which shifted in.

In this incident, COOL PAL bumped the hindquarters of MR VANILLA which became unbalanced.

Shortly after the start, DRAGON GLORY was awkwardly placed outside the heels of FOTOGENIC which shifted out.

A short distance later, DRAGON ENERGY raced tight between FOTOGENIC and BORNFREE, both of which shifted ground.

From wide barriers, SOUTHCHINA COMMAND and MY CUP OVERFLOWS were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.

After passing the winning post on the first occasion, FOTOGENIC was steadied away from the heels of CHANS DELIGHT (V Cheminaud) which shifted in when not properly clear.

V Cheminaud was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

Near the 850 Metres, FOTOGENIC got its head up when travelling keenly and awkwardly placed close to the heels of CHANS DELIGHT.

Near the 200 Metres, MR VANILLA was shifted in away from the heels of BORNFREE to obtain clear running.

When questioned, Y T Cheng stated that coming back in distance to the 1650 Metres from the 1800 Metres of its last start when successful, he had to ride HONG KONG FAT along in the early stages in order to obtain a good position.

He said HONG KONG FAT did not travel as well as it did at its last start and then did not finish off the race.

He said, in his opinion, HONG KONG FAT did not handle tonight's track conditions as the horse had previously been unplaced on a similar surface.

A veterinary inspection of HONG KONG FAT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of CHOICE EXCHEQUER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

FUNNY FORTUNE and MR VANILLA were sent for sampling.
