Recap by phillip woo
Secret Sham was well rated on the front, cornered just over a length on top and kept up a good gallop to just hold favourite Dundonnell for the win. Dundonnell settled fourth and one off the rails, cornered four deep and was doing some fine work late to make it close on the wire. Kabayan travelled midfield along the rails after a slow break, then was held up behind runners until switching off the heels of Dundonnell at the 150m and finished willingly thereafter. He should have gone close to winning with an unimpeded run. Tour De Force came up one-paced over the final 100m after punching the breeze in second. Gurus Dream was not suited by the early pace, but did eventually get going down the outside from the tail of the field. Wonderful Moments was disappointing after enjoying the box-seat run. Backed late, What You Dream never was a factor after travelling second from the rear. He, too, was at the mercy of the pace, but is clearly a better miler. Packing Whiz had another dud after travelling outside Kabayan.
