Recap by phillip woo
Odds-on favourite Sledge Hammer made his run one off in fourth, straightened four deep and just outgunned Kingston Jumbo in a photo finish for an overdue win. Kingston Jumbo was ridden along after a sluggish break to eventually settle third and one off the rails entering the first bend, responded to poke his head in front three deep 20m out and was nipped on the wire in his first outing on the dirt and at this level. He'll come on for the run and may be able to get away with a suitable sprint race at this level. Tang Palace led them into straight by nearly two lengths and grudgingly gave way. Oriental Fantasia kept plugging away without menacing following a pace-stalking run in his initial run on this surface. He's better over a further trip. Amazing Gift travelled second from the rear and made some ground near the inside without menacing. Everspring got by beaten rivals from the tail of the field. Nine Dragons faded approaching the final bend following a midfield run.
